I remember hearing the legend and story of the white owl when I was a child but now I can't remember it. Does anyone else know it?
Hubby's cousin has one in his yard.
Thanks AF but thats not it. It was a ndn legend that was told at gatherings and pow wows when I was a kid. Probably Choctaw, Creek or Cherokee. I was wondering what it was because this cousin of hubbys is Creek blood and is fighting cancer. He feels the white owl is a sign of some kind. We hope it is a good one we are having a fund raiser to help pay his medical bills this weekend. He does construction work and has applied for SSI but they don't want to give it to him.

Well here we believe Owls to be messengers of death... as fer white owls.. Im not sure

In the Cherokee creation stories, Owl was one of the few creatures who remained awake in vigil during the 7 days of creation, along with Panther, as well as some of the plants- pine, cedar, magnolia, laurel, mistletoe, rhodendron, and one or 2 others. Owl and Panther were given the gift of being able to hunt either in the day or the night. Owl chose night so she would not compete against her brothers Eagle, Hawk, and Falcon for the same food.
Personally, I've always loved owls...they've watched over me at night, especially when I can't sleep. Used to weird my ex's family(Paiute) out when we went camping, tho, as the local owls would sometimes come see me. Being as he was a jerk and his mom was the mother-in-law from hell, it was somewhat amusing. Got a great horned owl now who flies down to the barn when I'm out late feeding my horse. Probably waiting to see if I spook any mice his way.
Flip side is that the hawks come when I'm bushogging as rats, mice, and other tasty critters go scurrying...and become easy meals. About 6 of them sit up in the trees every saturday morning to see of I'm going to fire the tractor up. If I don't, they fly off. If I do, they wait until I get in the field then watch for breakfast to come scooting. Guess their little ones are feasting like kings.
I do watch for the turtles and baby rabbits, tho, and either stop and move them or go around them.
my best concert was George Strait's in Phx. this is gonna sound gay but.. one guy and one guitar singing. who woulda thought huh? oh and all the cowgirls dressed up.. hola! hell yeah it was a good good show.
worst, probably this singer called freddie fender. he had a blue sequine jumpsuit...
This past week myself and three other friends took it upon ourselves to drive to Marion, Indiana and check out "Soft Shell Turtle" at the Mississsinewa Living History Event. We were only able to make it one day, but that was more than enough for this information.
Hi All,
A friend of mine has been describing a Sunhawk to me. He is frustrated because he can't remember the English name for what type of hawk this is. Does anyone know? He is nearly blind, so can't really see pictures that I find on the internet. We'd really appreciate some help with this....
