Anyone for "Bifocals"~ Negative or Postitive impact on you eyes?

I'm in the 40+ age group now and was in denial of needing 'those classical glasses', but I feel that the bi part made my vision worse! I must admit though that it did help me string my thread thru the lil eye of the needle!!! Boy sometimes getting older isn't better, body parts start to get run down......

I wear bi-focals, every 2 years I get a stronger perscript! I'll be 47 in 8 weeks...

Isn't it a pain though, I guess there's no way for some to get around them! My dad, when he was alive never did wear glasses, but he did have to read with his arms stretched? Nice design on your medallion.

Got the no line kind, but I have noticed if I know I have a few minutes to read a book, I take them off.

As much as I hate to admit I need the bi's I have the no line too, the doc asked if I wanted contacts but I can't stand anything to touch my eyes. He said it would take only a few weeks to get used to, but I have no time to get red and weary eyes here at work

My 1st. pair was terrible! I kept telling the glasses place, that something was wrong, they kept tellng me it would take a bit to adjust to them. I finally went to another doctor and guess what?! The other lens place had put the bi-focals in upside down! Once the top was put in right for distance, and the bottom in for reading they worked fine.
I have a friend who had to get tri-focals and she had a terrible time with them and finally had one of those eye surgeries done instead.

i work for a eye surgeon.. we have to do eye glass checks daily..lol where the optomitrist put the glasses together and ground the lenses wrong..lol it is very hard for alot of folks to get used to the progressive lenses because you have to move your head around so much to get the right sight.. but you can bet after the age of 40 your eyes will start to decline if you have never worn glasses before.. alot of folks dont know that they will allll get cataracts.. it is a given.. some choose to deal with them others blame the glasses, they can only go so far and the cataract needs to be removed.. lots of misconceptions about cataracts.. :)

They wanted to give me bi focals the last check up I got about 3-4 yrs ago. Told em no. I wanted to get two sets of glasses........ one with one perscription ......one with another..... but she wouldn't hear of it...... by damn I should know what I want!

Anyway.......hubby has em and hates em. He has the no lines. Has a hell of a time seeing with em. Mis-judges steps and all. Any close up work he does they come off.

I just got my first set of bifocals (hate them!). I went back to ihs and told them i wanted the new pair for distance. I guess i'll go to walmart & pick up some reading glasses.I just couldn't focus with them on.

Too bad I'm such a coward, a thousand dollars a eye isn't that much when you compare paying for glasses over a few years time.
Maybe I should reconsider when I look at the long term cost factor. Do you have any idea if the surgery keeps your eyes okay for good or if the deteration starts again after the surgery?
My dad and mammaw both had cataracts, so I know it's probably coming.

lasik or wave front surgery will last for many years .. BUT..lol you will eventually have to have readers.. our up close vision always goes around 40ish, if you are near sighted then you can put it off longer than someone who is far sighted.. and cataracts are hereditary..if your parents had it younger than normal? then more than likely you will as well..everyone who i have ever seen who had lasik is very happy with the end results..and yes the cost factor does equal out..especially when you have to pay up to 300 dollars for glasses.... yikesssssssss..
