  • Has anyone else started their Christmas shopping yet?

I was just wondering if anyone else has started their Christmas shopping yet this year. I usually try to be done by the end of Oct. to avoid the crowds but have gotten a late start this year.
Today I went to Toys R Us and got most of the young ones shopping done. The one thing I really wanted was this years Holiday Barbie for my grand daughters age 2 and 5 but they didn't have it out yet. For the teen girls on the list I'm giving gift certificates to Claires and one of the big music stores. For the teen boys gift certificates to the music store and to one of the big chain auto supply stores.
For my in-laws I'm getting subscriptions to large print magaizines that they enjoy. Gift Certificates to Cracker Barrel resturants for friends who are older and like to eat out.
If anyone has someone on their list who seems to have every thing, try getting them subscriptions to magiznes of something they are interested in, a years subscription to the local newspaper or if they are on a limited income pay their electric or phone bill for the month of Dec. or give them a gift certificate to the local big chain grocery store.

I started already - just knick-knacks (stocking stuffers). I kinda' look for things everytime I go do my regular shopping.

I find that if I pick something up here & there, it adds up & I have most of it done before mid-December when I start getting serious! LOL

Like, instead of getting me a little something-or-other, I buy for everyone else starting at the first of November. Worked pretty good last year.

I bring the stuff home & put them in a storage box in the closet. THIS year (I learned from NOT doing it LAST year) I keep a list of what I got at least - then I can match up as time goes on.

    Anyway, my .02

My mother used to pick up stuff year round for people if they had collections of things and then would put it in a box for which ever occassion came first their birthday or Christmas. I picked up the habit, but didn't have much time to look for stuff this year. I do already have my son and daughter-in-laws done. They collect Old World Christmas ornaments so I try to add to each a year as well as sperate gifts for them. I found 10 of them on sale last year that they don't have at a store going out of business so I bought them fast!

First thing I bought was the Holiday Barbie for my granddaughter (found it at Wal Mart). I've been buying it for her since her first birthday and almost couldn't find one a couple of years ago - so Barbie gets taken care of first.

Starting early helps on the wallet. I don't get hit all at once and just have to settle on a gift for someone. I can take my time and get what I want.

The last few years I have bought most of my Christmas gifts online. Beats the heck outta fightin' the crowds and saves on gas if I am looking for something in particular. If you catch it just right, you can get free shipping on some things.

Any suggestions on what to get my sister who has everything?

Yep, this is gonna be a good christmas for me and my family. Every year I say I'm gonna start shopping early and put stuff on layaway. But I never get around to doing it. So this year I finally did it. Started last month. Only owe about $300. now. So after I'm done paying that off. I will put another lay away, for other family members, like cousins and aunties. And I'm pretty excited about that. Found alot of really nice stuff at walmart.

So we don't go broke, I shop a little for everyone all year round...then they go "How did you do this on your budget?" It's really cool, then I have money for good food for the hoildays.

Okay...what are you buying for gifts this Christmas? I have 20 year old, a 17, a 13 and a 10 year old....all girls. The 10 and 20 year old are easy to buy for, its the two in the middle that puzzle me. What do teenagers like? We live out in the country in rural Oklahoma, so take that into consideration....
