I was honored to have dinner and listen to Nick Sparks speak tonight at UNCP. He is the author of "The Notebook" and "A Walk to Remember". It was an even bigger honor when I was asked to give the benediction/prayer before we ate.
I was able to meet him and socialize with a great deal of people, but I also wrote Mr. Sparks a letter. I told him that his book "The Notebook", as I watched it on film, changed how I looked at my life. At the time I watched it, I was so hurt with my divorce and my situation seemed bleak, on it's best day. But his book reminded me of unconditional love - and what it truly means. The kind of love that some people never in a lifetime know.
I have known that love.
I was so moved that I turned the movie off and told my daughter that I hope one day, that she can share with me those same feelings, of knowing that kind of love. The kind of love - where you know, I mean you really know - that you have been loved. A love so deep that many people could never understand it, cuz they never take time to know it - they don't have enough time or enough patience to grow and nurture it. But once you know that love - you know.
I told her that truly - if I am never held again - never loved again - never kissed again in my life - that I would not begrudge a soul - cuz I would be satisfied for the rest of my life in knowing that I knew that kind of love. One that was true and one that was pure.
It gave me the strength to call my husband (we were not divorced yet) and tell him one thing - Thank you for loving me and sharing with me that kind of love. I am not sure he heard me...but it didn't matter. It helped me to not be bitter over a bad situation. I am satisfied and blessed in knowing that I indeed know that type and kind of love - unconditional love.
Anyways - I just wanted to share with you .... have a nice night.
