  • Where are the Elders?

I love this site. I love to listen to the PowWow radio and see what's going on in the Native world. But where are some of the Elders? Where is some wisdom and stories from the old ones. This is a great site for communicating with the people. The younger people seem to really enjoy it. But this site could also be a place of teaching and passing on Native knowledge. So where are the Elders.

Not everyone has computers or feels comfortable using them....just a thought.

On these here boards, our two most respected Elders are Colonah and Joe's Dad. Both well thought of and both provide sage advice.

I don't know.. maybe it's just me but I have a hard time taking advice from unknown elders on boards. I'd rather stick to going to my own elders back home... It's just hard to trust who you are talking to online sometimes.. we've had our share of frauds here before you know.
Don't worry that it's not good enough for anyone else to hear... just sing, sing a song.sigpic

Plus, a lot of people I call as elders don't even speak English so most of this board would be lost on them.

Learn in person. Powwows.com was set up to be a place where people can come together and talk about pow wows, cut up, let others know about upcoming dances, tell people about their recent pow wow trips, talk about how to make outfits and bead, and just have fun. It wasn't set up (thank goodness) as a place for people to learn about spiritual things.
I think everyone on this rez is addicted to Harry Potter...lol...

For sure! And there is no way that even if a well respected english speaking elder would come and share the best knowledge and teachings that people from different tribes and teachings would accept that as being truth for them.

And on the other hand....... I don't know of any elders that would want the responsibility of putting all that out there and then not having people be accountable for that knowledge.

I've been to bingo's, the elders can get nasty if they don't get their number called. PowWow.com and Pow Wows are and can be the same. A gathering of the people. In dancing, singing, and cutting up having fun. But there is also places to listen. To feel good about being with those who feel the same about life. I don't go just to buy and/or sell things. The gathering is the thing I like. Like wisdom and talking about the spirits, everyone is different. Your heart will guide you if something doesn't sound or feel right. But their may be those out their looking and this site can have a place for them as long as it doesn't become like the whites with someone asking for money to get to heaven. This site is big with round for all.

I said I was an old man...not and Elder!

As far as sage advice...It's said that the sage from Bear Butte smells the best!

                        Whattup dude?

Why must I feel like that..why must I chase the cat?

                                Hey,
It's me, Rosa, and I figure that most of you are either parents, old people or teens, so I think everyone can have a say in this, so here goes my questions...

Why are there so many native teens who are dropping out of school or decide to not go to college all together? I've...

I don't friggn write all "Native" themed poetry. I never have.

That's another gripe I have with skins and or skins stereotypes. Why do people feel compelled to write about just Native subject matter? I mean, feel it and write it. I guess. But don't pose. I can tell the tried...

This is a major concern of mine that most of the people on this website don't even think is serious. There are many active and inactive threads where non-Indians or Indians with very little blood are just praised that their heart is with our people or they are Indian in a former life. Some natives tease...

I guess this is a native issue -

Sometime back someone suggested I check out this place. I thought to have found a place where people got along with each other, but in my case that didn't happen. There were threads started by others here that not only caught my interest, but also prompted...
