Ok.....oldster here.......

What I remember of it...... hubby and I were married in '71 and in like '73 or '74 was when the recession happened. It had to do with the Arab fuel embargo. Price per barrel went from like $3 barrel to over $5 over night. That made the gas at the pump go from .30 gal to like$1.20 gal overnight.

That was at a time when 85% of the people drove themselves to work. That's when the idea of carpooling.... ( kalaka... for those of you that remember the commercial... ) started.

Welllllllll....... with all the fuel stuff goin on....... that of course made DOW react....... stable markets then dove to all time low. You had some people jumping out of buildings and all like they did during the depression only not as bad. Nixon didn't want people to compare the times then to the depression so that is why they kept saying....... REcession. Least that is what I remember.

Anyway......... he in answer to that........ printed a bunch of money as to help put off the recession........ (duh.... what was he thinking.... ) and that caused a little relief then but then mushroomed which we still haven't paid off that debt.

The way it effected me was hubby was working at an iron pourer in a foundry that made piano plates for all the big piano companies... Kendall and etc. (Liberace had special orders... ) anywayyyyyyyyy............... when times are hard....... people are NOT going to be buying pianos.... so they really cut back and he was laid off from a couple jobs.

I remember the gas lines! Just had gotten my drivers license and a job at Shoneys Big Boy resturant, my parents made me walk the mile and a half to town to catch the bus to get to work. So embrassed to be seen walking to the bus station in that stupid uniform.

My white world is about 50/50 native/white. I did get a big laugh the other day about it though, 4 of us locals had a meeting with the "newer residents" who have formed a group in our area to try to control growth. (They want to turn our rural area into a city) These people are very much City people with uppity addidudes. I noticed when my friend Judy and I drove up they looked at us oddly, and kept watching both of us during the whole meeting. They also seemed surprised that the other 2 "locals" kept asking our opnions when it came to issues and followed our leads. It was only as we left that I noticed both Judy and I had Native bumper stickers ect.. on our cars that were parked side by side. We both laughed and Judy pointed out that David and Donna the other 2 locals had black hair. David said they probably thought we were planning a Pow Wow or take over lol.
A take over, yes, a pow wow, no. Not enough room to have a decent one at our center.

Hey Annie, that happened to me once. I was working as an electrician's helper some years back and had to walk on the freeway, actually hitch a ride on the freeway to get home. Imagine this freeway unlike the ones in the big city, this one was out in the boonies. I caught a ride with a Mormon who gave me a free fishing rod. That was the only kewl thing. I had a hard hat and a lunch box with me.

I just live. Things in the world in general are confusing enough without trying to separate everything into this or that categories. I try to keep it all in balance.
