LOL .. well I had TWO uncles who were stupid enough to purchase not only beta, but picture disk too... remember those? High quality picture movies on something the size of an LP... ancient ancestor of the DVD.
Don't worry that it's not good enough for anyone else to hear... just sing, sing a song.sigpic

Did you know that those 'normal' movie disks were of a better quality recording than what you get today?
There was no compression algorithm to speak of.
If you hooked up the player to a truly quality TV and Sound system you got as good as, if not better than, what was being shown in the theaters of the time.

Then there were the 'archival' disks with absolutely no compression of either picture or sound. It was a good system, just expensive and bulky.

I ended up selling mine when the VHS system beat out the 'BataMax tapes' and strangled out the 'BataDisk System'. They never did put out many of the type of movies I liked. They were having trouble getting permission to put the good movies onto the disks. At the time Sony had not joined with any of the movie studios.
What caused the VHS system to win was that you could select the record speeds. With BetaMax you had to buy the tape length you wanted for the duration you wanted. The quality was fixed - Their best.

My hubby still has the first VHS tape he ever bought.. Top Gun and he remembers paying close to 100.00 for it brand new LOL!

Polluting sounds like how fast Phoenix turned into Mexico City in a few years. Can't believe how ugly it looks now. It's suppose to be one of the fastest growing cities in America, but I'd rather live in North country where the air is better.

LOL. I should change this thread to, "Back in the day..." or "I was so poor the only thing I owned was...." kidding. I sure didn't think I was poor back then, I never had to compete with anybody's else's income. It wasn't necessary to have them. I was happy with what I had especially our livestock, but nowadays we have to ask permission on the rez to raise one sheep! It's crazy! the overgrazing ruined our lands plus drought, but nowadays a few head of sheep and horses means you are stepping on someones' feet, especially the tribal officials.

It has gotten kinda ridiculous here. 114 days with no rain doesn't help either. That's another thing I noticed about going up to the rez; whatever various little health problems I may experience at home, I don't notice them when I go up there. You are used to the way of life you had growing up and have to adjust as times change. A lot of you grew up with little but that's what you knew so, it didn't really bother you. I lived in the New Jersey part of New York City for my first 10 years, moved to Tucson for another 10, and have lived in Phoenix the rest. Tucson drove me crazy! New York it's not! As I get older, I enjoy the slower pace more and find the city more and more annoying. But it's hard to give up those conviences of the city...

Do y'all remember the so-called recession? I don't. I read about it in the paper and I thought, WTF? Whatta hell is a recession? People were in sorta panic. And here I was, whatta hells going on? I never saw/felt anything different. I still ate the same bargain foods, shopped in resale shops( that sounds so much nicer than second-hand), frequented yardsales. Not a biggie. Meanwhile businesses were going under and news stories were talkin' about "how to reduce your expenses".

I still haven't figured it out. I had no clue we were inna recession.

ok, maybe that sounds funny. It's the New York metropolitan area. 10 miles west of NYC. For years, I used to say I was born just on the wrong side of the Hudson River.

I guess I was a wannabe New Yorker for many years! For most people, it's just easier for me to say I'm from NYC anyway. I stubbornly hang on to those roots as well, which is kinda funny since I haven't been back there since '79. I'm still diehard New York sports ('cept the Giants & Islanders) all the way. You could say I threw everyone I know a serious curve when I started taking Navajo classes and going to pow wows! That was one from the "didn't see that one coming" department...

I know what you mean, about the "good old days". I lived in a little town, lke one store, gas station, one motel, had to hve a hotel. one drive-in and two churches. ooops can`t forget the two room school. And everyone know everyone. My Late Aunt was the MOM and "nurse" of the town. She had 11 of her own children. Trading comic-books, going to someone else`s house to wtch a special show because only a few people had a T.V. LOL Most everyone watched the same thing like Outer Limits, Bonanza, Ed Sullivan........Salmon everyday...........Miss `em so much .......

Yep, we still so and when we were drinkers, we had less cash, but drank everyday, food on the table, clothing on our backs, bills paid on time and now we are sober (8 Yrs) and robbing PPeter to pay Paul. LOL So ridiculous. My later sister introduced me to "resale" stores. Now they are even so expensive, that you might just as well go spend the exta couple of bucks and buy brand new, but not brand name. When I go visit family in B.C. my daughter takes me out every Sat. to these yard sales and that so so "cool" , you know?
