Finally saw the movie. As a former Marine and combat vet, the movie was OK. The language on right on, I really didn't cuss until I went into the Marines. The cockiness was right, that's a sign all combat arms military people share. During my time tattoo's were the thing, we didn't brand each other. One thing is we didn't talk back to Staff Sargeants. I was expecting a little more. I don't kown what though.

Know why?
An 'ex-Marine' is a dead Marine.
We are "former Marines". And, would like to remain so for a long time before we become "ex-Marines".
Urah?
Heck yeah! URAH!!!

I thought it was kind of intense at times .....not in the way a lot of the "war" movies are but in the sense of the personal experience that Swofford was going through. That is what I feel the movie was about........ HIS exprience and that is what we have to keep in mind. With that being said I think that is why I got caught up in the emotions of the movie.
The whole experience of Swofford's first arriving till his departure was emotional for me....... not that I was crying all the time.....but seeing when certain things happened to him he seemed to "snap" emotionally and those moments were what I felt made him into the marine that he was.
There are parts of the movie I just can't shake and I think that is what they intended..... like bringing home the intenseness of the experiences of the marine such as the wall of shame and how when in the midst of a battle how much the solider relies on the love and support of their loved ones back home offering that sense of stability that they are missing there.
The one part that really slapped me too was the Viet Nam vet. My hubby and brother and close loved ones were in that so indirectly I was in that too. I know how a four time wounded veteran stepping of the bus at the rez and not so much as getting a welcome home solider from a single person because they were all busy cheering Billy Mill's arrival down the road. I know how it really messed with their lives.... relationships and for some.... futures. They were for the most part just boys that went there and come back with a big void and jaded for the most part. oh well......i digress....
ok....... I'll save the rest till some more answer what they think.....

Saw it.... liked it....laughed at it (some parts like getting drunk and dancing in his birthday suit except that dainty santa hat........will be watching it over and over again.
Ya know on a serious note, I have always heard stories, growing up from a military family, but never really got the picture until I saw that and Code Talkers. Both are really good movies!

I LIKED THE STORY LINE, HOW HE GOES FROM A DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY LIFE TO COLLEGE AND THEN INTO THE SERVICE. I THINK IT WAS ADEQUATE ENOUGHT BUT I THINK THEY COULD'VE WENT A LITTLE MORE DEEPER INTO THE IRAQ CONFLICT AND IT'S DURATION. IT PORTRAY'S REAL PEOPLE AND REAL PROBLEMS, AND I THINK IT WAS REALLY A WAKE UP CALL TO WHAT IT REALLY TAKES TO BE IN THE SERVICE, AND THE STRUGGLE'S THAT THE INDIVIDUAL GOES THROUGH. I WOULD LIKE TO THINK OF JARHEAD BEING THE NEW GENERATION OF WAR MOVIE'S.

I saw the movie a couple of weeks ago.
It's fairly accurate. . .at least as far as the "wall of shame" and deployment-relationship issues are concerned.
My husband's an Army Officer, and currently serving in Iraq. I get daily phone calls from his soldiers' wives/girlfriends/fiancees seeking advice on relationship issues; and my husband has to deal with his soldiers' drama over there, LOL.
I thought the movie was good. What did you think?

I feel like I should apologize for posting an inapropriate image in the 49 forum. It was rather funny and SmokeEater I hope you aren't mad, your my homie I thought you'd get a kick out of it and I hope you saw it before it was censored. I don't regret posting it but an apology is in order nonetheless....
