  • Little Girls clothes >

Singing Otter brought this up in my what do you dread about summer thread, little girls being dressed way too mature for their age. I know what she's talkng about because I went shopping for my granddaughter age 3 this winter and 1 store had leather mini skirts with sheer tops for TODDLERS! I finally found some great little girl clothes that looked like little girl clothes at Target, Dora the Explorer and Strawberry Shortcake stuff, pink dresses, cute overalls, ect.. I've also found that the Olson Twin line has some cute little girl stuff. Anyone else out there shopping for little girl clothes want to add places or tell horror stories about trying to find decent clothes?
Oh, and for those of you that are having trouble finding tops that cover your teenage daughters stomach, my 16 year old soved that problem by shopping in the boys/mens section. She find some of the same type shirts (bands, football team's ect.. ) that she finds in the teen dept. only they are long enough to cover the tops of her jeans and are often cheaper in the boys/mens dept. than they are in the teens/womens.
Same goes with boots and shoes, cheaper if you buy them from the mens section.

I agree with you, My daughter is 8 and its takes me awhile to find little girl clothes. There's something else about clothes....Do you notice that they make all these skimmpy clothes for teens and younger people and for those of us in our thirties...they want us to dress like we are really old. I don't get it. There's no between.

i can remember having this same conversation with soo many moms out there ... and i can remember goin out and trying to find suitable clothing for my daughters and finding it very hard. mini-skirts, short shorts (hot pants) that barely cover her hindquarters, crop tops and mess everywhere.

and some of the jeans are like WTF!! i saw one pair that was a size 10, low-rise with large circular openings all the way around just under the waist band about the size of a large chocolate cookie (only thing i can think of around the same size .. lol). if a little girl wore it her underwear would be showing through the holes or she would not wear any!!! i was like holay chyt!! these jeans would fit a bigger 7 year old, 8 or smaller 9 year old!! and most of the jeans now are made to fit snugly ... so i end up buying larger sizes and get them hemmed up for my girls.

and my other sister did go shopping one time for her 14 year old daughter and they had thongs in her size and smaller (for younger girls)!! what would a little girl need with a thong?!? she has other things more important to think about the vpl (visable panty lines)!!!

i still remember from my younger days there was this young girl who always had on skintight jeans and she dressed like a woman (mind you a trampy looking woman .. lol) and we (my friends and i) used to joke about her cuz the way she was allowed to dress by her mother ... how many 7 -8 year old do you know that buy their own clothes? any ways she's married to an older man now and whatever ...

i always try to dress my girls like girls and have told them i'm not going to allow them to wear make up until they are 16. now that my older one is going to be 12 and some of her classmates do wear makeup - she's been asking. were not going to back down, and i have seen her classmates who wear makeup and one of them puts it on like an tramp .. lol .. well she does ... and i told her i dont want her to look like that

Yall I SWEAR I got them halfway cross my azz and there they sat. NO JOKE. the top HALF of my azz was just wavin' HAAAAAAAAAAAAAY. Needless to say they stayed in the store. My daughter is 4, and the clothes I find for her are so ugly...who wants to look at a little hooker? Are pedophiles designing these clothes?

My Mom is a great seamstress, so we took a cute little Shirtwaist dress we found at Wal-mart, on sale, and she made a pattern using it. Now my Maya has cute little dresses to wear this summer. Shes a girly-girl, so dresses suit her well, We also found a way to use the same pattern and make them into jumpers as well. Wal-mart and Hancocks has some nice girly pattern material, so we just kind of stocked up.

I also like the Mary Kate and Ashley line. I love the new "Gypsy" looking skirts they have with the little peasant blouses. I just make sure that Maya wears larger sizes so that she is comfortable and can play. Thankfully, she is still such a tiny girl, and I have some control over how she dresses and what she plays with. I've limited her exposure to Bratz and Mean Girls, and the other nasty Hootchie Momma stuff out there. Shes still all Dora and Blues Clues....HOWEVER, she does like a nice pair of dress up heels......and tiaras......oh lordy!

I've been shopping at Shopko and Target, and sometimes Kohl's...but lately I've been haunting WalMart more and more....

The Hootchie clothes I'm talking about are the little skimpy half shirts and the low cut little jeans...I mean, these little girls don't even have hips yet, how are they supposed to hold up lowrise jeans?? I even picked up one little blouse that had a neckline almost as low as shirts I wear! It was a pretty color, so it looks cute over a higher necked tank top...I just think little girls should dress like little girls...not like little women.

yea i'm mostly at walmart, jeans warehouse, la senza girl (now there's an oxymoron if you ask me ... la senza (women's underwear) and girl .. lol), old navy and real canadian superstore ...

as for where my sister found the thongs ... it was WAL MART ...

i often wonder if pedophiles are designing these clothes .. some of the ashley and kate clothing is quite risque for lil girls and so are the kim possible line ...

I had the same issue about clothes for kids. My baby is turning 6 soon and I did notice she tries to impersonate the Bratz dolls sometimes, but we put a stop to it. I have that problem especially at powwows and ceremonies. I see all these young girls with the azz cheeks hanging out saying, "look at me! I'm right here!" I would never, never let my daughter wear clothes like that. I was always taught that women need to respect themselves, but nowadays...all that is out the window. Short skirts, see through tank tops and nipples showing. I'm really ashamed of women who disrespects themselves in the open like that. Jeans that go almost to the pubic bone and thongs hanging out..........I'm just like whatever. If you want to be hoochie, whatever, but I draw the line with my daughter. We just got back from Gathering and 50 and I were talking about that and they are like 12 or 13 year old girls dressing like prostitutes. It's all in the parents teachings.
Fall down 7 times, get up 8. MY FAMOUS WORDS.

I know what you mean! I'm in my 40s and due to my size shop in the Jr./Miss section, if I can find something to fit in the womens dept. it looks like what women in their 60s wear (those little velor style jogging outfits, ect..) but in the jr/miss section all the jeans are too low cut, the tops too revealing ect... I like to go to Kohls or Target and get the solid t shirts or shirts with collars, I buy them a couple sizes too large so they will reach past my waist and leave me room to move a bit and be active when I'm wearing them. As for the jeans, well lets say I now have a nice selection of belts and longer shirts. lol

I've seen those and the jeans with the stressed look, holes in them ect.. that teens are wearing. I won't buy those my kids put enough stress and holes in regular jeans! I would be afraid the stressed jeans would fall apart on them in just a couple of wearings and I don't have money to waste.
More and more the clothing manufactures are making kids clothes miniture copies of adults, including underwear. The thongs are so even little girls won't have to worry about VPLs.

When I was a kid my mother wouldn't let me associate with girls that she thought looked trampy. She said if their mothers let them out of the house looking like that then the parents morals were NOT the type she wanted me exposed to!
At 12 my youngest daughter had 2 girls in her class who where pregant and 1 who had AIDS! Make sure you have a very open and blunt talk to your daughter about sex and morals so she will be prepared for what she might see and hear in school. I always told my girls a guy will say if you love him you will have sex with him and if a guy said that to them they should answer, if you love me you wouldn't ask me to go againist my moral beliefs.
