  • Dealing With Disrespectful Neighbors

Does anyone have a neighbor that is totally disrespectfull ?
If so, how are you dealing with it ?

I live in a neighborhood that's for the most part calm and peacefull ! Untill the adolescent 20 year old couple moved
in next door. They fight and argue a couple times a week,
and when they are not fighting and argueing, they have
the base turned up so loud in their cars it gives you a headache. My wife has caught him shooing small sticks
at my dog with a cross-bow. I confront the 20 year old and he denighs it.

Short of getting physical with him, does anyone have any good advice on how to handle the situation?

uh.. call the cops when the bass is too loud.. get a video camera to record when he's doing things like that to your dog for proof when you call the cops... find out if he's renting and let the landlord in on it....
Don't worry that it's not good enough for anyone else to hear... just sing, sing a song.sigpic

In short.. be the butthole neighbor you would have hated when you were a teenager or in your twenties and full of "spunk". You know, the kind that always calls the cops on you cause you ain't got a clue that you're the real butthead. LOL!!

I agree with BB - get your landlord involved and caretaker too if there is one. We have an annoying couple in the apartment above ours - and some nights have been really rough. You must try to let the caretaker or landlord deal with them - they likely have experience at it and plus it's their job - you pay rent and your place should be safe for all your family members and comfortable. Make formal complaints as you need too - written is best.

Both Singing Eagle and BlackBear have good advice. Most places have noise ordinances, and even if you (or they) don't rent, the police will enforce the ordinances. Both the police and the SPCA would be helped with video evidence of them messing with your dog.

I had a problem with noisy people on the weekends when I first moved to this neighborhood. It wasn't that far out of line, just that mariache music blasting from parked cars 18 hours a day wears a little thin. I don't speak enough spanish to be able to carry a conversation so asking them to tone it down was kind of out of the question.

One morning I kind of had it with the whole mess, took my 4' tall speakers, put them on the porch and gave the whole neighborhood a LOUD taste of Northern Cree.... CD ended and there was dead silence.

Now I thought that was that, but about 15 minutes later, mariache was back on. I waited for a bit, and repeated with another powwow selection (and watched out the window to see what the reactions were this time). Old guy went over and switched the car stereo off and the whole group across the street was standing there listening RESPECTFULLY to my music. I repeated the experiment later with one of my Irish-born wife's Celtic CDs, same result.

So my problem has been pretty much solved - when I get tired of my neighbors' music, I play DJ for a while *grin*

ROFLMAO.. no kidding... so am I!! LOL.... naw seriously, they can be as loud as they want during certain times of the day as long as I can hear my tv in my house. I gotta listen , as well as the neighbors to my hubby and his friends play country music every saturday night till 1am so if my neighbors want to be noisey they are more than welcome to go for it. But out here, the noisiest are the ones with sled dogs and chickens on one side, and the dude who likes to have gun practice on the other, and just a little further away is the dude who likes to run a chain saw at odd hours... I wish he's have loud parties instead LOL.

Thanks for the advice people ! I don't mind it if they are a little loud through out the day, and I don't care if they have parties. The line is drawn when the bass gives me a headache, the idiots have no idea what that bass is doing to their ears, their baby's ears, they have a baby that's about 6 months old. Truthfully they can't enjoy that music with all that bass. They listen to it just to be dissadents " I don't care what you think, I 'll do what I want your not my mother or father " a little ignorance goes a long way !

They are renters and I am going to e-mail their landlord. This is the second time we have complained about them, maybe he will give them the boot this time.

...I agree with getting the landlord involved. If the problem persists, then get your OTHER neighbors involved. This especially works in an apt. situation.Any lanlord worth his (or her) salt will evict an unruly tenant rather than risk losing multiple rents.Good luck and keep smilin'1

Here is something I was sure would be brought up. Do you have a neighborhood assosiation?
Or a community liason officer? Having your landlord talk to his is a great idea if you are renting. Where I live, if the cops are called too many times to one location they start billing the owner of the property, check into that and see if that applys where you live.
                          good luck.
