I want to clear the air! What tribes are out there that are saying there native and aren't! Even the State recognized ones ???

Just a thought. Instead of giving any more attention to these people and possibly someone learning of them and joining. Why now focus on the real tribes and their problems. Like poor conditions for living and all. and gang stuff. etc. Just a thought.

Self-determination

In my opinion, the federal or state governments of the USA do not have the right to determine, declare, create, destroy, and/or otherwise control the existance of a tribe. Federally recognized tribes are not tribes because the feds say they are- they are federal recognized because the feds are making place in their own laws and minds for the existance of the tribe. They can tell themselves who is a tribe and who is not, but if they never recognize someone, it doesn't mean that that someone is not indigenous.

oh ya, and to finish the thought- if you truly believe in soverienty, you'll agree that a tribe dtermines itself to be whatever it wants to be, when it wants to be.

I myself, am more interested, as the commentor above, in the conditions of life we live in. When it comes to phonies, hoakies, imposters, and the like, you can tell who they are because they come and go with the trend and have no family connected to the community. I don't let them dominate my being. The people I know in my Wamp community have solid threads through history, and are physically decended from our ancestors, the people who lived here before anyone else.

We know who we are, and for the most part, don't need to be recognized by anyone else to know what we know. Some still want to be fed. recognized, and have won that status, not to prove who they are to the U.S., but in an attempt to improve the conditions of our people.

If you think I'm full of **** let me know. But tell me cuz i'm curious, why are you so angry about fake tribes? I'm not trying to challenge you, I'm just curious. Maybe your'e not angry.

I think we should bring attention to these fake tribes so that people KNOW they're fake!! we have to expose these organizations for what they are and warn people!

Seems to me people know who the fake tribes are. If they aren't federally recognized........ they're fake. If they aren't state recognized.......... they're fake. If they aren't given any credibility by the native populations............. they are fake.
If you have to pay $25 for a card saying you are a member ....... they're fake. I could go on and on.

Those that it matters to know by now. Those that don't....... once they are on this board awhile will.

Seriously, I have to agree though...... seems like too much attention is given to these yahoo's and their doings and not enough on those needing attention and solutions.

I'll make a bet now...... If I would make a post for everyone wanting to stop fake tribes or indians to donate $5 through paypal and a post for everyone wanting to help stop drug and alcohol abuse, spousal and child abuse, help those in need of housing, food, EDUCATION, help end gang related crime to donate $5.... I can tell ya now the account with the most money would be the fake tribes and indians. Why? One part isn't that I feel people don't want to stop the other things going on........ but they want a "feel good" feeling. They want to feel like they are doing something to preserve their heritage or whatever. They don't see helping with all those other things they would be doing that anyway.

I dunno........ I bet most of ya even quit reading my post up aways...... that's ok..... I quit reading when some go on tangents too.... But I'll tell ya what....... I'll still be speaking about all this even on my death bed.

Well even the state recognized tribes must have some kind of merit for being a native community or the state would'nt bother giving them some native rights within their boundries...

But I'm also with the crowd that would rather pay more attention to plights of legitimate tribes with needs. I'd rather fight against anti-native organizations like OneNation and Upright Citizens for Equality than against wannabes anyday.

Newly established fake federal or state tribes are getting government funding like the ones that I'm posting, who are taking away from the true native issues wether it be, Housing, Health services, Pantries, Drug and Alcohol Programs, Education, Daycare, Elderly Programs etc...and the general public/Natives need to know issues like this....I'm wondering why legit tribes are losing services?... example Kiowa Housing was one of the government cuts, along with many other issues, but on the same hand the government is funding more and more fake tribes and/or organizations.....my opinion, this is not good....... but since many here posting are disapproving of what I'm posting or bring into light, this sick cycle will never stop, and who loses out? the legit ndn Elders, Children and families. sad...... whats wrong with raising awareness?
