I hell hate these files........ why is it people insist on using them when you visit a web site and click on a link? Why can't they just post the info and let us get on with our lives? But noooooooooooooo.............. they have to make you download this piece of crap file that takes forever on dial up and then takes forever to open and ties up your system until it does. ARRRRRRRRRRRGUUUUUHHHHHH!!!

.pdf is photoshop. Sometimes people have to resize images, and it's quite simple to resize in photoshop and then host it on a hosting site.

PDF takes up less room in memory than if you kept all the pictures and words and designs, so they can add more PDFs -

What I'm really complaining about is the adobe acrobat files that you have to install the reader for. That takes up my memory just to open these things. And most webhosting sites now have gazillionbytes for space so they actually COULD have the info right there.

I might not pay too much attention but like I said....... I'm on dial up out here in the boonies.

PDF is Adobe Acrobat, not PhotoShop.

PDF means portable document format.

The strength of these files is that it allows you to take a Word document, Excel spreadsheet, etc and upload it to the web. And that file is able to be opened by anyone, on any computer without having to have the program that created the file.

PDF is also extensively used for Forms because most just have the reader so the Form cant be modified
I like em because I can convert a word document to a PDF file and know the person on the other end can open and look at it easily

And when you print them from the internet, you can usually be sure they're going to fit on the page correctly and not get the edges chopped off like most internet pages.

Right, when someone creates then in Word or some other program, they are guaranteed how it will look on everyone's screen. All other file types will look different as people with different computers, os's, screen sizes, etc open it.

I used to have an 8 page newsletter and they were about 8-15 meg each, depending on how many photos.

When I convert them to PDF they are 2meg or less and of the same quality.

PDF...I thought someone was talking about the Army and its machine guns.... PDF in the Army is: Primary Direction of Fire. As soon as I saw the PDF thats what it meant too me.
PDF goes on range cards primarily for defensive positions, when soldiers are dug in trenches or fox holes.
