  • I just wonder...

I read in the newspaper the other day about a woman who where teaching about native american culture. But not history - more like new age (if we can call it culture). Anyway, she's quarter ndn (grandfather) but born and raised in Sweden and when teaching she dresses up in buckskin clothes and uses a drum and such.

I just wonder, should this person be considered to be a native or a wannabe?

Sorry don't read Swedish, but I think it would depend on how much of her Native heritage her grandfather taught her. Having a Native grandfather she can't be considered a wannabe but teaching her Native Culture? That really depends on how much she has learned from her elders and how much she has actually lived the way of her culture.
Courage is just fear that has said it's prayers.

If she has native blood then she is native american, just because she has other parts of blood doesn't maker her any less native....

This may not be what you want to hear....

but, it's the dominate part that comes out in her....

You don't have to like her.....

but a little respect goes a long way.....

      have a wonderfull day...

and may God bless you according to His will..

It is not about like or dislike, it was just a thought I got reading the article... A common question, If you like. I don't do a valuation about the woman. She can be a wonderful person, who knows? I have never met her.

Sorry if the question sounded wrong or disregarding in any way, it wasn't ment to be.

Well, let me see if I can put another sign on the is she/isn't she thing.

On my father's side I am a direct descendent of nearly every Scottish king clear back to Alpin MacAlpin, the first High King of Scotland, and past him to the ancient kings, then down thru James I(the guy who decreed the King James version of the Bible), and also nearly all of the English kings from William I of Normandy down to the father of Henry VIII.

On my mother's father's side I have the same English ancestry, as well as most of the French kings back to Charlemagne, past him to Constantine's II and I of Byzantium, and past them to the kings of ancient Greece, Persia, and the emperors of Rome.

That being said, all that royal ancestry DOES NOT make me a princess, nor does it give me any right to claim a title or even an affiliation with noble or royal family. It just means its part of my ancestry- nothing more, nothing less. And considering the fact that a great many of these ancestors were despots, mass murderers, with plenty of fools and morons in the mix, and nearly all of them greedy sob's who feasted and lived in luxury while many of their subjects lived in misery and bondage, I'm not sure I'd want to claim said affiliation.

On top of that, I WAS NOT raised in a royal or noble family, so I simply am not one, period.

If this chick was raised in Sweden, she's Swedish, period.

Yet one more Granola-fruitcake-New Age-twinky riding the Noble Savage gravy train. Sheee-ittt! Somebody just shoot me now...

No thanks on the Depakote. I went out and split some wood, and also rode my horse a bit, so I feel much better.

However, while I no longer want someone to shoot me, I'd still like to give every crystal-head who perverts our traditions and ceremonies an a$$-load of buckshot. That would REALLY make me feel better!

Jeez, where can you get the english version of this paper? I can only read half of it....But hey I agree with OHM on this one, born and bred in sweden, then that's what you are.

It's just like when parts of your family find out there injun and they come outta the woodwork to find you, and fight for your native rights, join AIM, go sweat at the holy mountain, pick an indian name from the computer site, and then change thier children's name from scott to woca woca mosh....man! I love my half breed sistah, but she's whiter than white, trying to fit in with the rest of us, and I love her the way she is. I'm not a part of AIM, my kids have perfectly respectable names, Mary (mar), Kayla (Kay), Alex (Alexander), all named after their grandparents or aunties, and my indian name is my own that only my relatives know, if they were close enough with my grandmother. And the only native rights I'm interested in is making sure that my electric, water and propane don't get shut off....LOL

That tended to run on a bit, I'll quit typin right about now.

wow this really makes me sad I think. we do not even know this women or what she tries to teach. we do not know what her grand-father taught her, or why she feels such a strong connection to her native blood, it is not like she is trying to hop on the money train or anything. maybe it is in her heart, I know there are a lot of things that I find I just know, and when I ask my Auntie about it she says yes you are right. maybe there is something inside her driving her forward. we do not even know what the article says. and who is the person that started this thread do we know who he or she is is this person native or does this person have something against this women? I would hate to think if i had been raised somewhere else that would make me less of an Indian. maybe she is full of crap we do not know all we know is that she uses a silly great big fuzzy drumbeater. you know when I thaught early headstart on my rez the kids made me a talking stick and it was the silliest thing i ever did see with multi colored feather, and stickers but i used it in my womens group years later when we would sit in our circle and talk, and i had someone tell me that the stick was fake and not very indian. i thought this stick has more indian in it than you could wish for, made by cute little chubby brown hands they were so proud of it. so that might be it maybe someone made it for her. i do not know but i am with TRUCK on one thing, my gas and heat not getting turned off AYE.
