  • Security system you may already own

    Great Idea, makes sense

Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies. This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this:

It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain.

It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break in your house, odds are the burglar or rapist won't stick around.... after a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that.

And, remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there..... This is something that should really be shared with everyone.
    ...it is what it is...

    Boozhoo niji,

This is a really good idea, but I can add to it a little bit. If any of you have seen me (when I am not dancing that is) you might have noticed a string hanging out of my front pants pocket. That is my key fob, it has multiple uses. Any of you guys that have gotten into your car (if you leave it unlocked like I do most of the time) and try to dig into your pocket to get your keys... well you know what I mean. The "string" is a piece of artificial sinew, braided 81 times strong. Its like a small unbreakable rope, and its about 12 inches long with a good knot on the loose end.

Hold onto the knot and you have a really nice flail. I have taken the car key/alarm fob off of the house ring and swung at a thick cardboard box and it went completly through with little effort. I am talking about a box used to package a lawnmower. The ring is not real heavy, only about 6-7 keys on it. Yeah you risk damaging your keys by hitting someone with them but I would much rather replace that than end up a victim.

Also, since we are on this subject get one of those quick disconnects to take your house ring from your car ring. Its handy and necessary if you ever go to a mechanic. An unscrupulous mechanic/valet or anyone that you might give your ring to can get your tag number, and therefore your house address, and then quickly make a copy of your house key.

Finally, and I dont know if this is totally true or not but this cant hurt... Put a piece of paper over the vin number in your windshield. I was told someone can use that to get a copy of your car keys made, and therefore steal your car. I use a "dancer pass" that I stick up on the dash when I park to cover the vin. Supposedly its illegal to cover it, but I dont see any reason why a cop would want your vin number while your parked.

    Derek
