    • Glad everything's going okay for you.

I'm sorry you had to give up your cats. I live in an apartment right now, so just have the two cats. When I'm in a house again, I'll get a dog too.

clk - oops. I didn't mean to ignore you. I trust you and your "powwow puppy" are doing well!

      • yeah, my rottie was in another dog fight last wkend ... hes really protective of the kids ... this other dog kept coming over to the house and 1 of my stepsons were outside, i guess that dog went up to him and my rottie was 'nah uhh' and jumped him ... it took my husband, my stepson, and the dogs owner to separate them ... ugh!! had to but a new collar for my rottie ... a cow bell collar ... hope that lasts more then a month

thats what u get 4 breaking my heart...

        • RDNKJ: It's kewl...I got no problem with being ignored...LOL ;)

MW: Yes that is a Mukky...a very very cute and loving little Mukky...lol...he's my munchkin.

Mukky and I are doing well...he is all grown up I think now we just gotta keep working on his manners...lol. Who would've thought a small dog like him could take up a whole bed at night...I'm raising a bed hog...

          • We have a seven month old kitten, female, who loves to do thinks like a puppy. We're not sure if she's genetically modified.

            • Kittens are so cute and funny. My last cat was very dog-like in her behavior. Not the two I have now, though...they are very feline.

At least Mukky is small. Back when I was a kid we had two weimaraners. There were many times mom would come in to wake us up and find the dogs in the beds and us on the floor!

Good for Rex that he is so protective of the kids. Too bad that instigatin' neighbor dog keeps causing trouble. Hmmmm...taser time!

              • I thought this was a funny story. I was talking to our receptionist the other day and she told me this story.

Back when she was younger she had a friend who had a pet raccoon and she had a doggy-door installed so he could come and go.

She found out the hard way that she had to time when she did her hair for when the raccoon was out prowling.

She used those old-style gray brush rollers in her hair. Don't know what the 'coon thought they were, but he didn't like them one bit! She was woken up in the middle of the night by the raccoon pulling the curlers out of her hair! If she used those type of curlers (and that's about all there was back then) and the 'coon was around, he'd make a beeline for her so he could get them out of her hair!

My rule of thumb: if it has opposable thumbs, it probably don't make a good pet!

                      By aschae
                      Source: FDA.gov, June 22, 2010

United Pet Group, Cincinnati, Ohio is voluntarily recalling all unexpired lots of its PRO-PET ADULT DAILY VITAMIN Supplement tablets for Dogs due to possible Salmonella contamination. The Food and Drug Administration is aware of this recall.

The product was sold nationally at various retailers. The product comes in 100-count white plastic bottles with a light blue label, and UPC code 26851-01800. These products are being removed from retail stores and consumers should immediately stop feeding these supplements to their pets. The affected products are those with expiration dates on or before “06/13″. The expiration date can be found imprinted vertically on the right side of the product label.

Laboratory testing has revealed that one Lot of this vitamin product was contaminated with Salmonella. The company is recalling all unexpired Lots of the product out of an abundance of caution.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

People who handle dry pet food and/or treats can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the chews or any surfaces exposed to these products. Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Consumers who have purchased the product are urged to contact United Pet Group or the place of purchase for further direction. Consumers may contact United Pet Group at 1-800-645-5154 ext. 3, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm EST.

                      • Club announcement / everyone

CLICK ON THE AVMA and you will see a great informational library!

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has released a video warning pet owners about the record heat being experienced across the country. The video can be viewed here, YouTube, and AVMA.

"It's only the second week in July, and already the summer of 2010 has produced record-setting heat waves in many cities, including New York, Boston and Washington, D.C.," said Dr. W. Ron DeHaven, chief executive officer of the AVMA. "When the heat rises, it can be a dangerous time for pets."

Dr. DeHaven explains in the video that many pet owners don't know that pets are even more susceptible to heat stroke during a heat wave than we are. This is because the vast majority of pets in America have fur coats, don't sweat and can only pant or drink water to cool off.

"Signs of heat stroke include hard panting, staggering gate, rapid heartbeat, listlessness, restlessness, dark red or purple gums and tongue, and vomiting," he explained "If you suspect your pet has heat stroke, put a cold towel around their neck, get them into an air conditioned car and get them to the veterinarian as quickly as possible."

Cars also pose significant summer dangers to pets.

"In the summer, a car parked in the sun can become deadly. Never leave your pet, or a child, in a car in the summertime. Even with the windows cracked, a car's inside temperature can increase as much as 40 degrees in an hour," Dr. DeHaven said. "This means heat stroke, and possibly death, can come within just minutes."

                          • An update on the Pro-Pet Adult Daily Vitamin supplement recall - it's since been expanded to almost their entire product line, including the glucosamine-chondroitin my husky is on. Luckily she seems to be fine, but I have discontinued the tablets. Better safe than sorry, especially at her age.

If you have your pets on any sort of dietary supplement, you may want to check the list on their website - they manufacture for several different brands including Drs. Foster & Smith.
