Over da years....
I've had some good visits and conversations with several SaaaaThurn folks....Gus Palmer tends to stick out in my mind....Driving him over to his room after a Powwow he shared some information with me....Kiowa war journey songs was the subject and how the modern day 49 came about.... it was enlightening to say the least.....
Its also interestng how 49 has its own set of songs and these songs are distinct.....We tend to group round dance songs in general with the 49...Hey music and is music and we like it so thats what counts, but keep in mind the difference....Hey Who Me where are ya?"She also has a very soft skin. The only trouble with snake women is they copulate with horses, which makes them strange to me. She say's she doesn't. That's why I call her "Doesn't Like Horses". But, of course, she's lying."

I heard a few 49 songs when I was in OK a few years back and liked them. But don't ask me any names, they were all in Kiowa and I only know enough Kiowa to get smacked really hard.LMAO

You ARE right. The majority of real saaaaathurn 49 songs are originally war journey songs. They are distinct and different from round dance songs. At saaaaaathurn 49's, rounddance songs are sung in the early morning and are sometimes referred to as "morning songs."
Through evolution both saaaathurn 49 and round dance songs include some without words (a only sung in vocables), some with English words and some with Indian words.
Some popular examples of 49 songs are:
"GI Joe" (a song without words where the lyrics sound like GI Joe)
"Black Jack Daisy" (a song with English words)
"The Pizza Song" (a song with Comanche words)Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.Comment

Duh...that's One Eyed Ford C7K. Anyways if you ever have been to Moonlight Mile, you got to experience a true blue Kiowa 49. The Cozads, Joe Fish, Millard and all the rest would be jamming all night long~! Those were the best 49s in the world!Comment
