Who do you hang out with?

This question may seem strange to ndn's who are from the rez or other ndn communities, but for skins in the city or suburbs it will make sense. How many of your friends that you hang out with are also ndn? I am not judging one way or the other, there is no wrong or right answer, I'm just curious.


Out of my friends only 3 of us are skins, 2 of us Choctaw and 1 Chumash, most of our crew are islanders ( Samoan, Filipino, Hawaiian and Tongan).

Back home in BC, was mainly ndns we all went to the same school, but since i moved to Cali its pretty much white boys.

Most of the people I work with are either hispanic or white...I think there's maybe 3 natives in my bldg...including myself. Outside of work, I chat with natives on mytribal and the Indian center that we go to...is full of em'...
So...yah.

I am stuck in the city, in a town that has few skins. Most of the ones I meet around here are the ones that "think they had Cherokee back in there somewhere." Try as I might, it is hard to meet any skins. Needless to say, those that are around here, are more guarded than than those say, in OK, about letting folks know. When a person finds out someone is NDN here, they kidna act like they just discovered oil. "Hey BillyBob! This here fellas one of them there Indians!" Sigh.

hello CaliChoctaw, i have friends that are mexico mexicans,the familys are wonderfull and life is good hanging out with them,i have a few ppl that are skins that i know and i usely can meet and talk with them but the most of the time i hang out the mexicans,in the work place i meet lot of ppl with native american anstery and it always seem to become a power play who has the most blood, kind of a tired game for me.no one really seems to understand who thay are or what it is to be native american,except for the teachers.i like the fact that most mexicans from mexico have some native concetshon to the frist ppl and thier lifes reflect thier roots.

Originally from OK, been in TX since 1980. Most of the skins here in the Metroplex (DFW) are easy to spot, the wannabees and wishiwas are a little more ready to tell you how much NDN blood they have. I don't recall a skin ever asking me to show him my card. I don't think it's done among real skindn's. So back to the topic, most of my friends I hang out with are skin pigment challenged. I do have a lot of friends that the only time we see each other are at Pow Wow's. Hey!!! Is that fry bread I smell........

Well I live on a rez so I am surrounded by mostly skins. Where I work there are a few nons but I usually don't hang out with them outside of work. I get along with mostly everyone, and usually just hang out with family and friends.

When I lived off the rez, I still hung out with mostly skins...lol

Before I moved, when I was still in school (many moons ago ) there was a group of about 8 of us (ndn's) who cliqued up, we hung with the vato's and brotha's.

When I got married and moved, the area had alot of Polynesians and other islanders, and since my father was Portagee/Hawaiian and I spent much of my youth in Hawai'i during the summer with family, it was easy to relate. The crazy thing was the skins I met here I met through the islanders. One of my boyz is Samoan and his wife is ndn, for example. Funny how sh$t works out.
