I like her.
I don't know a single parent of teenage girls who has not feared that no matter what you teach them, they might end up expecting a baby. Lets face it teenagers are really seem to be alliens put on this earth to give parents grey hair and mini nervous breakdowns. Between the ages of 15 -21 kids hear only a quater of what you tell them and pay less attention than that.
She has served as Gov. with 5 children, why not Vice President. She didn't resign as Gov. to stay home to take care of her Downs Syndrome child why should she not be Vice President with him.
She is a "HOTTIE". But she is also smart and has more of a backbone than most of the male poliiticians I have seen over the years.
Let's face it people if she was a man, NO ONE would expect her to drop out because she has a Down Syndrome baby.
Courage is just fear that has said it's prayers.

life under the clintons was pretty prosperous. IHS was in its heyday as was most tribal programs. all around life was sure on the up and up. but that was then and theres no reason now to hang unto those years. just think of them as hoop dreams or pipe dreams. no matter how you vote, jump up and down, blog, talk etc, its always gonna be outta reach. haha sorry to burst your bubble folks..

so whats the reality?

obama has the media in the palm of his hands. people who dont know better hear what he says and take it face value. he sounds intelligent and it sounds great. so lets vote for him..!! thats the part that sucks cause he hasnt accomplished anything or did anything. wow.

but im a democrat for life and i love hillary. haha the best thing obama could have done was pick hillary. damm what a quandry.. what do i do..? so now i see sarah palin as fearless and upstanding. now i see mccains platform and holy hell im interested.

i believe mccain as president is less dangerous than obama. so for now i switched but im not a total believer.
thanks dad for showing me the way, teaching me the language, and not leaving my mother...*L*

I think it's pretty cool. Alaska magazine had a good article about her as gov a couple months ago. I was very surprised, but in a good way. Did you notice all the women on the news shows were all cheesing it after the announcement? I guess I was smiling too!
...it is what it is...

Last night I heard that vision centers are having runs on glasses like she wears. She seems to have style, yet down to earth enough that I can see her being comfortable in jeans.
Lets face it people with kids this woman should know how to budget.
I don't like the rumors saying that her other daughter is the mother of her Downs Syndrome son. It would be more realistic that the child is her's for the simple reason that women over 40 are more likely to have children born with health problems. My hubby has 2 cousins who are deaf because their mom was in her mid 40s when they were born.
I really don't like the way the media seems to be trying to mess with her reputation, by trying to claim the baby was one of her daughters. She is going to have to be as tough as a Pitt Bull to surive all the media alligations.

Any person going into politics has to be tough to survive the media scrutiny... not just a woman.

But I think the main people questioning her ability to be V.P. and a mother are women. Because we all know how DAMN hard it is to juggle everything with few casulties.

Her older kids are mostly raised, and her husband seems the type to step up. He already took a year off work when she became govenor.

I'm more scared of her conservative positions on abortion, religion and guns. So if McCain/Palin wins, I certainly hope he makes it all they way through 4 years.........

Well, I am pro gun, pro choice and I haven't had a chance to read her views on relgion yet. I have to believe the Supreme Court will stand firm on the pro choice issue.
I just know that so far I like what I've seen from her.

She's not pro choice. She is pro life.

The supreme court will likely change in the next few years. I wonder what kind of "judge" republican's will appoint. Roe vs. Wake is hanging by a fingernail as it is now.....

I agree. I like what I've seen so far. I'm proud to see a successful woman come a long way. But I'm not voting for McCain, because of her. He had more credit in my eyes for being willing to work across the aisle. And he is or use to be pro choice. But he is REALLY, REALLY old. So if she becomes President, OMG!

If Roe vs Wade gets over turned then there are going to be alot of illegal abortions in this country and women are going to start dying from them again. I'm old enough to remember hearing the stories of older cousins friends getting permantly damaged inside due to illegal abortions. Hearing the older girls in school talking about "safe " back door abortion clinics.
I also remember family doctors being arrested for doing illegal abortions and the tv news reporting it. I also remembering a Judge in Chicago denying a 11 year girl the right to have a abortion when she was pregant from her father. A year later the same court took that child away from her due to being unfit parent.
Personally believe in abortion unless it's for the health of the mother, rape or incest. But I do believe woman have the right to choose what they do with their own bodies.

Hard to say much about her, up to 10 days ago many didn't even know who she was. But what I have found out Palin does not have a very good record with as far as tribal Sovereignty, fishing rights and Native languages go.

I would tend to believe that, especially about the loss of fishing rights, since her husband is a commercial fisherman.

Just a little info I got in an email. Thought I would share. Thanks!

This information was sent to me today and I'm thankful for receiving it because it addresses the issue of how at least one of the candidates stands on Native American issues. I'm not attempting to tell any of you how to vote this November but at least be aware. Sarah Palin is the "new focus" and while I'm happy to see a woman given the honor of running on a ticket for the VP seat, I still cannot afford to vote for that ticket just because she's a woman. So, to help you make an informed decision, here's some information other than the issue about "the bridge to nowhere" and the jet plane supposedly sold on Ebay.

This article below addresses her attitued toward the native people in her own state of Alaska. Considering the fact that if she becomes VP, she is a heartbeat away from the president's seat, her attitude toward the original people of her state concerns me. I ask you this question: If she doesn't really respect the rights and traditions of her own state (even thou gh she claims her husband is "eskimoe" ... doesn't seem to even know the proper tribal name), HOW DO YOU THINK SHE FEELS ABOUT YOUR TRIBAL NATION????

It this matters to you at all, then it's important to get involved and encourage everyone to VOTE!

Thanks and love you all!

SARAH PALIN IS A MENACE TO THE NATIVE COMMUNITY.

What's Palin's Record on Native Issues? | Reznet News

Tribal Sovereignty, subsistence hunting & fishing as well as the
Indian Child Welfare Act must not be overturned.. .

Sarah Palin's Record on
Alaska Native and Tribal Issues

(Thanks to Suzan Harjo for this. She says,"I had a very tiny hand in it, but it's best to say that it was written by Alaska Native people. I did fact-checking and cite-checking, and can verify its accuracy.")

1. Palin has attacked Alaska Native Subsistence Fishing
Perhaps no issue is of greater importance to20Alaska Native peoples
as the right to hunt and fish according to ancient customary and
traditional practices, and to carry on the subsistence way of life
for future generations.
Governor Sarah Palin has consistently opposed those rights.
Once in office, Governor Palin decided to continue litigation that
seeks to overturn every subsistence fishing determination the
federal government has ever made in Alaska. (State of Alaska v.
Norton, 3:05-cv-0158- HRH (D. Ak).) In pressing this case, Palin
decided against using the Attorney General (which usually handles
State litigation) and instead continued contracting with Senator Ted
Stevens' brother-in-law' s law firm (Birch, Horton, Bittner &
Cherot).
The goal of Palin's law suit is to invalidate all the subsistence
fishing regulations the federal government has issued to date to
protect Native fishing, and to force the courts instead to take over
the roll of setting subsistence regulations. Palin's law suit seeks
to diminish subsistence fishing rights in order to expand sport and
commercial fishing.
In May 2007, the federal court rejected the State's main challenge,
holding that Congress in 1980 had expressly granted the U.S.
Interior and Agriculture Departments the authority to regulate and
protect Native and rural subsistence fishing activities in Alaska.
(Decision entered May 15, 2007 (Dkt. No. 110).)
Notwithstanding this ruling, Palin continues to argue in the
litigati on that the federal subsistence protections are too broad,
and should be narrowed to exclude vast areas from subsistence
fishing, in favor of sport and commercial fishing. Palin opposes
subsistence protections in marine waters, on many of the lands that
Natives selected under their 1971 land claims settlement with the
state and federal governments, and in many of the rivers where
Alaska Natives customarily fish. (Alaska Complaint at 15-18.) Palin
also opposes subsistence fishing protections on Alaska Native
federal allotments that were deeded to individuals purposely to
foster Native subsistence activities. All these issues are now
pending before the federal district court.

2. Palin has attacked Alaska Native Subsistence Hunting

Palin has also sought to invalidate critical determinations the
Federal Subsistence Board has made regarding customary and
traditional uses of game, specifically to take hunting opportunities
away from Native subsistence villagers and thereby enhance sport
hunting.
Palin's attack here on subsistence has focused on the Ahtna Indian
people in Chistochina. Although the federal district court has
rejected Palin's challenge, she has carried on an appeal that was
argued in August 2008. (State of Alaska v. Fleagle, No. 07-35723
(9th Cir.).)
In both hunting and fishing matters, Palin has continued
uninterrupted the policies initiated by the former Governor Frank
Murkowski Administration, challenging hunting=2 0and fishing
protections that Native people depend upon for their subsistence way
of life in order to enhance sport fishing and hunting opportunities.
Palin's lawsuits are a direct attack on the core way of life of
Native Tribes in rural Alaska.

3. Palin has attacked Alaska Tribal Sovereignty

Governor Palin opposes Alaska tribal sovereignty.
Given past court rulings affirming the federally recognized tribal
status of Alaska Native villages, Palin does not technically
challenge that status. But Palin argues that Alaska Tribes have no
authority to act as sovereigns, despite their recognition.
So extreme is Palin on tribal sovereignty issues that she has sought
to block tribes from exercising any authority whatsoever even over
the welfare of Native children, adhering to a 2004 legal opinion
issued by the former Murkowski Administration that no such
jurisdiction exists (except when a state court transfers a matter to
a tribal court).
Both the state courts and the federal courts have struck down
Palin's policy of refusing to recognize the sovereign authority of
Alaska Tribes to address issues involving Alaska Native children.
Native Village of Tanana v. State of Alaska, 3AN-04-12194 CI
(judgment entered Aug. 26, 2008) (Ak. Super. Ct.); Native Kaltag
Tribal Council v. DHHS, No. 3:06-cv-00211- TMB (D. Ak.), pending on
appeal No 08-35343 (9th Cir.)). Nonetheless, Palin's policy of
refusing to recognize Alaska tribal s overeignty remains unchanged.

4. Palin has attacked Alaska Native Languages

Palin has refused to accord proper respect to Alaska Native
languages and voters by refusing to provide language assistance to
Yup'ik speaking Alaska Native voters. As a result, Palin was just
ordered by a special three-judge panel of federal judges to provide
various forms of voter assistance to Yup'ik voters residing in
southwest Alaska. Nick v. Bethel, No. 3:07-cv-0098- TMB (D. Ak.)
(Order entered July 30, 2008). Citing years of State neglect, Palin
was ordered to provide trained poll workers who are bilingual in
English and Yup'ik; sample ballots in written Yup'ik; a written
Yup'ik glossary of election terms; consultation with local Tribes to
ensure the accuracy of Yup'ik translations; a Yup'ik language
coordinator; and pre-election and post-election reports to the court
to track the State's efforts.

In sum, measured against some the rights that are most fundamental
to Alaska Native Tribes – the subsistence way of life, tribal
sovereignty and voting rights – Palin's record is a failure.
