Will Obama free Peltier?

It's the age old question. Not everyone thinks Leonard is innocent and framed, but most people in our community at least think his trial was a sham and that some truth was buried, enough to warrant taking another close look. For nearly 33 years, Leonard has been waiting for a President to grant him pardon (which would at least give him his freedom should courts not be convinced of his innocence, and then maybe the principle of that is a whole 'nother can of worms).

Will Obama free him? Should he? Is it any of our business anymore?

i think the chance is better now than it has been before. that doesnt mean i think it will happen. Obama is a civil rights lawyer--thats certainly to peltier's benefit. i'm a firm believer in the constitution and a person's right to a fair trial. from what i know of the whole production, i dont believe that he got one and i believe there were several issues that should have resulted in reversible error. but at the time of those appeals, obviously the mindset was different.

if obama holds to his campaign promises with regard to indian people, who knows what we'll see.

I feel the need to offer remarks on some of the statements on this thread.
If Obama pardons Leonard Pelletier it would require that he have more spine than his predecessors, it would also mean his political suicide. Therefore, if he pardons political prisoner Leonard Pelletier it wouldn't be until the final days of his term, be it first or second.
Saying that President-elect Obama is a socialist as a stupid as saying that he is a Muslim terrorist. Anybody and everybody but Red State morons recognizes that captalism as practiced in this country has gone awry. How can it be that while most have to live pay check to pay check others can flaunt their wealth. Somethings's very wrong here. My family income would have been high enough to have money in the savings account 8 years ago. Now the savings account holds my 401k that I pulled out to pay my mortgage so I don't lose it while the stock market tanks.
Assassination worries? Yes that is a viable fear. NRA nuts and rednecks are stocking up on assault weapons at gun shops all over the country so they can have one when Obama reinstates some sane gun control laws. Right now private citizens are amassing arms that criminals will get ahold of during home invasions. The white terrorists that live in this country are already planning an attempt. You think it was bad during the LA Rodney King riots? Guess what'll happen if Obama gets whacked out.

I never said I was against guns. I like guns. I like shooting them. You can ask my Ruger .40 cals, my shotgun and my 30.06. I'm working on obtaining my concealed carry permit. I also like to bow hunt and can center a target with my Bear compound.
I ride a Harley scooter too but I will not ever join a group be it biker or NRA, I hate groups and their laws. You just jump from one BS government to another. In my opinion only the worst of the insecure join a group to hang with others of their particular type. But, feel free to join whatever clique you want, that's what America is all about.

Now, here's the deal I'm about. Who the hell really needs an AK 47? Home defense? That's crap. Look in the mirror and answer this question, "Am I a paranoid conspiracy therorist that needs an assault weapon?" Maybe we all need assault weapons.
The second amendment deals with a well armed militia but we haven't used militia since the Civil War. We DO have our warriors in the Marines, Army, Navy and Air Force. We have the National Guard. Why do we need assault weapons? If a well armed, well-trained terrorist force infiltrates and starts busting caps on civilians, untrained civilians and their AK's and M-16's just create more problems than solutions.
But I have the solution. Give every citizen a weapon, train them and then we have the answer. If a buncha crazy yunegs want to start a ruckus then we have the time-out in our hands.

I was just reading today about how the sales of handguns, rifles, and ammo have shot through the roof since the election.

What are the odds of Bush freeing him on the eve of his leaving office? I know Clinton pardoned a lot of folks just before he left office.

There sure as heck will be plenty of attempts on Obama's life , just about every president has had attempts on his life, we just don't hear too much about them. I can imagine a lot of igorant white power types already planning something. I don't think they will get far unless they are goaded and aided by inside help.

Odds of Bush freeing him is like a trillion to one.....which means he would still have a chance..LOL!!!.....but yeah, I seen the reports of firearms and ammo sales rising....I just bought myself another firearm and loads of ammo....not because I'm some crazed dude but because it's a recreational activity for me, I just like shooting stuff up.....and to read peoples comments (not just here) that it's wrong to have guns make me wanna reach back with my pimp hand and lay down some law.......not everyone who owns a gun is a criminal people........I just got this feeling that more and more, without people realizing it, we are slowly getting our freedoms taken away....what we work for is being taken away, so slowly you don't see it yet....but when it becomes too large to hide, then will people realize how screwed we really are......
