Hey, both my parents and all of my grandparents had brown eyes. I have blue eyes like my scottish great grandmother. Of my girls, one has brown eyes like her dad and the other had blue eyes but they changed to green about 2 years ago like my mother in laws.

i took a human anatomy class in high school and college . . . . the text books say: the darker pigments take over the lighter ones.
example: a man with blue eyes prefers to marry a women with blues eyes . . . why? so he will know if the wife is messing around.
        *lol* i thinks that stupid.

i have a friend who is white with red hair, she married a black man, and they have two kids together. the first child has mocca skin, black-kinky hair, and brown eyes. the second child is a male image of his mom, white, red hair, green eyes . . . . go figure *lol* (did she cheat on her man with a white guy *lol*, i dont know)

my nephew is a half-breed (dine'/white). his mom is a dark skinded navajo and his dad is blond haired, green eyed, white man. my nephew is light skined (white lookin), dark brown hair, and brown eyes *lol*

i could give you many more examples . . . . but im too lazy to type *lmao*

so who you gonna believe . . . . the text book or the real thing *lol*

thats what u get 4 breaking my heart...

Why must I feel like that..why must I chase the cat?

Brown eyes are a dominant gene. Blue eyes are a recessive gene. Anyone can have a brown eyed baby but to have a blue eyed baby both parents need to have a blood relative that had blue eyes. When you have a white parent & a non-white parent darker gene's usually come through, but sometimes not, some times you have a light skinned half blood child (of which ever non-white background is involved), however the child will have either brown, hazel or green eyes unless the non-white parent has some white blue eyed person in their ancestry (even if it's really far back).

Yep our gene's can create all sorts of unexpected combinations, but these combinations always follow a set of genetic rules. I still think my husband and his twin brother are one of the more unusal. His Mom is Mohawk & his Dad Irish. My husband is the spitting image of his Mohawk Mom (except he has green eyes). His twin brother is the spitting image of his Irish Dad. People never believe they are related (let alone twins.) One of our children looks like my husbands twin, whose youngest child looks like my husband.

I totally agree with this one. My dad had green eyes and my mom has brown eyes. I have dark brown eyes, my one sister has green eyes and my other sister has hazel eyes.LOL So it can and does happen.

And I went to HS with a guy who had one brown eye and one blue eye too. That happens too sometimes. What's really rare, but I knew a girl once like this--is one brown eye and one green eye.

Eye color is not that straight forward. In high school bio they teach eye color right along with the wrinkled and smooth peas -- dominant brown/recessive blue, line them up in a Punette square and there you are.

But, eye color is a polygenic trait. Three genes have been clearly identified as controlling iris pigmentation. And, there are indications that other genes may play an indirect role in eye color. Inheritance is much harder to predict and other factors including disease can effect eye color. Iris pigmentation is a poor paternity test indeed.
