I LOVE the idea and remember seeing this around Christmas last year then I also remember reading an article that if you sent them, they weren't getting delivered. :(

When I was in the military I worked as a personnel pay and benefits specialist and lemme tell ya the red tape and procedures are a real headache. I have the feeling some schmuck in the mailroom simply looked for a patient by the name of "A. Recovering American Soldier" and when (s)he doesn't find one, (s)he will chuck the cards into the R-bin without so much as a second look. OK, but seriously, it's possible that mail not addressed to a specific person might get screened for security reasons. Here's the logic: a terrorist or some other wacko mailing anthrax, for example, would just want to infect anyone but might not know who is in the hospital and which room they're in at any given time. Such knowledge could have been the qualifier to send mail into the place before, perhaps? But if it made the news (which it apparently did) that Christmas cards weren't getting delivered I'm guessing some higher-up will be taking just a little more time to supervise the process and avoid another season of bad press.

You can alway look in the local phone book and find out the address for the VA Hospital closest to you and maybe put a card for a recovering soldier in big letters across the front.
