  • should I get a tattoo?

I have always wanted a tatto of a tribal turtle with my indian name written under it. I want it either on my shoulder or on my right calf.

I am now working at the health department as the Human Resources Clerk (meaning I see many people on a daily basis) and they have nothing about tattoos or peircings in the dress code.

for those of you that aren't aware i have a eyebrow ring that i do take out every day for work. not b/c they asked me to, but b/c I feel i look more professional with out it.

    Should i get this tattoo?

If this tattoo has special meaning for you then get it. The one's i have, i do have because they have deep meaning to me. To me, that is the only reason to get a tattoo.

GO FOR IT!!! eff what everyone else thinks... (jibz got me on a kick where i'm thinkin' eff the world...hahah...jks!)
honestly, do what you feel! if it's something you want... and have thought about, sounds interesting, go for it! afterall you're representing yourself, heritage & all... & people make judgements on everything... give 'em a lil' soemthing to talk about. i dunno bout gettin' tatted on your calf...more power to you, it sounds like it'd hurt, but where you feel you want it!
i personally lubb tatts... have a couple of 'em myself and still wear sleeveless to work.. i don't care..i do...but i don't.. you know!
          i say go for it!

Go ahead and get one. My recommendation is, if you do, get it somewhere it's easily covered, until you find out how the company/office responds to folks with tattoo's. Ive seen people get fired in the corporate world for such and less...

Speaking from personal experience, make sure who ever does the work is a licensed artist, they have a clean shop and are reputable. I'd also draw your own design and make sure you take the design with you when you leave, that way no one else has the same tattoo. Another thing I always do is ask to see the artists portfolio and ask to see pictures of similar designs and work with color and black and white. Artists always love showing off their work, so they will have no problems meeting these requests. A little warning though the better the artist the more it will cost and possially the longer you may have to wait. Average price for a good artist around $100 per hour. Some a little more or less.

MaggieB that is just about what I was thinking about doing. My dad's tribal symbol is a turtle too (the Chickahominy) and I was thinking about getting N.A.P. under it for Native American Pride! Keep me updated as I am kinda scared to do it (AND BROKE!)

If you're sure of what you want, and you've thaught about it and are aware of all significances, go ahead!
I know lots of ppl w/ tattoos and as long as they weren't drunk and thought about the design for at least an hour (usually much, much longer, though) they are all completely happy.

I say, you should. If this is something you thought about it, then go for it and like bushy said, "eff what everyone else thinks." I have seven and don't regret any. I work in Human Resources and people at work have seen between four and five out of the seven and they all like them. It's not like anyone would go, "Eewww, gross!" And if they did, so what of it.

                          SAVE the cashola...
money shouldn't be an issue when it comes down to tatting, if it's something you really want, go for the gusto cause it's gonna be on your bod forever. people always ask me, how much was this one & that one, but it's not about goin' to a store & findin' a good sale, it's about payin' for quality work, you know!?
and it shouldn't take long, mine have all taken about an hour, and the longest about two because i had intricate details...
also one thing you might want to keep in mind... a lot of tattoo artists charge by the letter, especially if you're getting a name. depending on size they can range from $10-50+ per letter and also location. some say that if it's somewhere other than your arm, it's an extra 10-20%.
another suggestion, something i've done is go & talk to the tattoo shop before, get estimations, ideas and see what the shops are like. if you go in advance, the artist may have more idea of what you like and how you want it done... whatever you do... don't be afraid to tell the tattoo artist what you want... afterall you're paying them to do it!
well gurl, now that you've got tons of advice & people on your side, go for it! and take pics!

I would definitely get it!!! I have one now, and plan on getting about 3 more over time... I am happy with the one that I have, but you have to be VERY careful about who does it to you, make sure it is a reputable place that takes pride in what they do, along with all the cleanliness issues, which everyone and their mother already knows about.
