Just ordered my new MacBook Pro!

My old laptop died a couple of months ago. After lots of shopping and comparing, I've decided to go with a MacBook Pro. Hope I'll be able to make the transition.

So who all uses a Mac?

I had an Emac and just bought a Mac mini for myself. I have like 25 machines because I build them, most run Linux. I gotta tell you, this Mac is the friendliest computer ever, even though that database is a windows thing. I think you all will love it.

I've used the Macintosh II (all-in-one design with a built-in black-and -white monitor) from the early days prior to the 6100 and 7100 series. Then jumped to the initial G3 tower. I still have it and it works great! Haven't dared to venture beyond that at this point.

PC and Windows for me since MS-DOS 5.0 in 1991!
Mom is a rabid Mac fan and since she is an educator they are a bargain for her

I'll still be a heavy Windows user! The server here is Windows, other computers on the home network are Windows, etc.

And I'm going to run Parallels to allow me to run some of my Windows programs on the MacBook.

All the system interfaces on the aircraft I work on uses MS
of some sort
I have Laptops loaded with:
Dos/Win 3.11
Win 95
Win98
win2000
and XP
Some program interfaces only use a DOS interface and others use a win version
Military aircraft are even worse they take years to upgrade operating systems
Its easier to build a frame for a laptop and power source and they just bring the Laptop onboard and use it for there computing power!

Which is a good "No blue screen of death" way to do it. I have heard good things about that program.

Here at our school, we love Macs. I wish I had one for personal or everyday use.

At least you're avoiding VISTA. Gotta avoid that like THE PLAGUE!!

I am currently using Vista and not had one problem
Much more stable than XP
Although I think the key to vista is to just get it loaded on a new computer

I have run into several legacy programs that dont like Vista but eventually they updated them to be compatable with it
I am just not seeing the issues that people say they have with Vista...

Yeah I use Vista Ultimate at work and never an issue!

Knock on wood when you say that.

Two of my daughters have Vista laptops and don't have any trouble - but then they just mostly use it to type, burn cd's and surf. Couldn't get an iPod to sync though, or their PSP, and having trouble syncing songs to their phones.

My biggest concerns with Vista are getting drivers for video and sound cards, beefing up XP computers with more memory to accept Vista and then it's SLOW, and program compatibility. Most of our educational programs don't even have plans to upgrade to Vista. And some, you have to give users full administrator rights for the programs to run - and you don't want to do that in a school.

And I just hate how they moved everything around in Vista. I was just getting used to XP - having used Windows 2000 for years and LOVING it (miss it terribly! ), then I get on my daughter's laptop and I can't even shut it down. And me - Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and Tech Director for our district. Shameful.

Mostly aggravating, just like how in Office 2007 you have to search for commands in new places, when you were SO used to knowing where they were from Office 2000 and 2003. The only cool thing about Office 07 is in Excel when the column headings are the actual heading names instead of A, B, C, etc...

And be careful downloading Service Pack 2. I would wait a few months and make sure they fix all the bugs in the service pack before I would install it.

Anybody heard or seen anything good in Windows 7? I'm hoping it's not just a glorified Vista and a totally new OS like MS Vienna was supposed to be.

Meanwhile, we're paying extra to "downgrade" to XP on new purchases. Oh well.
