I think everyone sings in da car... I mean go to a bar and get up there and sing? me I do it some times! I was made to do teddy pendergrass turn of the lights a while ago... I think its fun! I butchered it but threw some comedy in the mix! If I usually do sing it will be a rap song.. something old from my younger days!

I do. I even have a karaoke machine and my own CDs. Its been awhile since I sang though. I don't go out much these days. I mean never.

When I do sound for a powwow, I offer karaoke after the drums close on Saturday night under the drum arbor. It's usually a big hit and a lot of fun for everyone.

The karaoke is on my laptop and I bring an extra computer screen for the words. It all gets hooked into the sound system.

Sometimes I will also track and mix the music and singer and make a CD to hand out. It's also fun to play the CD on Sunday morning as I test out the sound system!

I am a karaoke queen! Well when I get to go out to the bar and karaoke... Tried doing that The Sims On Stage web karaoke site but when it records me, it records me a half a second later than it should be and makes me sound like I'm trying to catch up with the music all the way through the song and that just sucks!
I will survive always brings down the house for me for some reason. I'm also quite good at The Only One ... but I have the most fun with Lovin' Touchin Squeezin
Don't worry that it's not good enough for anyone else to hear... just sing, sing a song.sigpic

The time delay is because the karaoke website is recording the music in its real time before the music leaves its website and your voice when it gets it. That half second is the time it takes for your voice to reach their website over the internet. Actually, that is not a bad responce time for working over the internet.

In multi track recording the term is called "latency". If you were working with a recording engineer directly instead of a computer some unknown distance away, the engineer could adjust the time delay manually before the final recording with your voice is presented.

One night I sang karaoke - one and only. It was a contest and I sang two songs - Here for the Party and What's It To You and I WON!! Haven't ever been to a karaoke since.

Glad to help. If you ever get down here in Ohio to a powwow where I'm doing the sound, look me up. We will do karaoke and I'll cut you a CD the way it should be done.

In going to powwows and listening to recorded music, I'm always trying to listen to the nuances introduced into a song. I've noticed that sometimes songs are sung "straight" meaning that everyone is pretty much together in the way they sing the song. It's almost like a church hymn where...

For a few months now, I have been unsuccessful in obtaining a correct phonetic spelling for this Ponca Prayer song. The song that I speak of is on the Millard Clark and Southern Singers cd from the National Veterans Powwow in 1998. I have a somewhat correct translation written down, but was warned...

when a song is sung that you just ain't feelin it are you 1 to just kinda walk-dance or do you try and jam any ways. I try and dance but it hard some time to try and fake it. Some times I'll just sort of sneak off but I don't like to because it seems so disrespectful to the drum.

My question is: What to do when a "Smoke Song" is sung during a formal Hethushka Dance Ceremony?

I had learned from Ponca men such as Harry Buffalohead, Joe Rush, Sylvester Warrior, and Abe Conklin, that the smoke song was originally sung in ancient times as a prelude to all...

A friend was telling me a Cree woman travelled to the Southwest recently and heard a Cree song from her area. The Cree words had been taken out and replaced by one of the Southwest languages.

                                Hmmm?

So if a person records a song or buys a CD, is this now their song to do...
