  • Power of the mix tape

U know you have made them, recieved them.
Certain sensational stimulation coenciding one song into the next. Vamping out space filling every extension of wound tape. Tryn to fynd that short trak to cram in at the end.

The technique of knowing just when to hit pause and pressing it just so eliminating glips and whirs of the merger.

No computer involvement and listening to each song as the tape gets encoded.

That one mixtape that you listened to so many times it wears thin. Repairing kinks pulling out slack and rewinding with pencil How Awesome was that!

    Got an interesting mixtape tale?

    Back in the day!!!

Ahhhhh yeah I remember the days when I had no money for music. I would find old cassette tapes that I could record off of and listen to the radio for my favorite songs. I would record them, and would start my own mix with my dual deck ol' school boombox. I would spend hours in my room on weekends trying to get the right beats and lyrics to flow. At the time I thought it was the sh*t! Now to think back it was low quality cheap entertainment. I wanted to be a DJ so bad, but that never happened. Just one of those childhood memories of mine. Now I have a Zune player and I do not mix anything. I want to though. but technology has taken over and is way more expensive. So I wait for the DJ to mix something good for me to listen to.

trying to remember how many dang mixed tapes I made back in the day. *L* I remember making one for my mom on her b-day or mother's day. It was an old azz recorder and I actually taped it from her albums. So I had this recorder next to the speakers and would try to stop the recorder quick and then change albums, etc. ROFL. It was all loud with a backnoise of humming.....she was all "Oh I love it!" Poor moms.

I remember trying to record the songs off the radio and getting peeved when the stupid DJs would start talking at the end of the song.

I remember sitting there waiting like 45 mins of bad songs, commercials and annoying djs waiting for the song I needed to come on. The worst was if the phone rang or I got distracted and missed it. I think the fine art of mixed tape making died when napster came out and cd burners got cheap

Honor beats and the last step?
                by ticocreek
hey girls....it's been awhile since I've danced and am getting back into it. Anyhow, my questions are:
                1) how do you recognize an honor beat and what are you supposed to do during it, and
                2) how do you anticipate the last drum beat so that you can stop with that beat? Obviously, we don't...

when a song is sung that you just ain't feelin it are you 1 to just kinda walk-dance or do you try and jam any ways. I try and dance but it hard some time to try and fake it. Some times I'll just sort of sneak off but I don't like to because it seems so disrespectful to the drum.

                by WhoMe
Have you ever composed a song?

Did this song ever get sung at a powwow?

How and where did you get the inspiration from?

Did you put it on a recorder to save it?

Did you add words to it?

Was it an intertribal or specialty song?...

                victory song protocal
                by SpeakingOwl
I was emceeing a college powwow recently. During the opening sequences they had the usual flag song, but immediately a victory song was presented and every one danced with the flags. Now I've witnessed this on many occasions, and respect this aspect of plains tribal observances.
                But on this...

Ever get that special song by your fovorite drum stuck in your head at the wrong time and can't get it out? It happens to all of us at one time or another. Don't you just hate it when it wont stop? Ever try changing songs to make it stop and find it doesn't work?

                Let me know your feelings...
