Does anyone else find it odd that the google ads in the forums list assort native crafts, sites, and.... halloween costumes?

I had been flipping through the ads at the bottom of the threads and noticed it. How and why did google lump that in there?

Paul G can better answer it than I can, but I think it works by scanning the site for keywords and then generating an ad for it. Costumes (halloween included) would come up because there are posts here referring to regalia as costumes and so forth. I've noticed that it also generates ads based on your browser history and or the cookies stored on your computer, for instance: I am always looking at new camera and professional audio and video equipment so when I visit this site there are multiple ads from "B&H Photo and Video", one of the largest retailers of such equipment.

If you ever look at the full list of members currently online, you'll notice that several of them are Google "Spiders" and their job is to crawl this site and send back info to Google for a variety of reasons, mainly for search purposes.

Yes, the Google ads are all based on keywords. They try to targe the ads based on the content being displayed.
