  • My Lil Mutt

ok yall, I have a question....

Would you be offended if someone of another tribe or even a non native person named their dog after your tribe.. and they didnt belong to that tribe?

I just got told to butt out of a certain forum because I was stating my opinion that it was not very appropriate for someone to do this, especially if they dont even know what the word means. I dont know if its just a Cherokee Princess thing, or does everyone else NOT see anything wrong with naming their doggies after another group?

How would you feel if I had a lil mutt at home named after your tribe?

I would be HONORED!!!! :) Dawg = unconditional love. Besides, most white people do not know what the actual name of any given Native Tribe even means! They just think it sounds pretty. And if they're an NDN who named their dawg after your tribe to be "ignorant", well that just speaks for itself.

              My dawgs:
              Easy Mountain Breeze
              Rocky Mountain Breeze
              Easy's Mr. Breeze
              Sandie's Golden Shadow
              Jet - adopted Golden Retriever
LuLu - abandoned Heinz 57 - WE LOVE HER!
              and last, but not least
April Kitty.....my dawgs love their little kitty

my dad used to have a dog named Whitey. He was the most obedient dog they ever had... he used to even ride in the back of my dad's truck and not even jump out til my dad said come on Whitey.

When I was a lil kid we had a black lab and us kids named him blackie maybe that gal named her dog anishinaabe when she was a kid or something and didn't think of that when she grew up all the people she'd offend. Cuz when we were kids we didn't know how to be PC and how "Blackie" could be such a bad word. Who knows just a suggestion as I'm trying to see it in a different light. We had a german shepard too he was the best dog and named him the ojibwe word for our family's last name I don't think that's dissin anyone since he was considered part of the fam but then again thats a word not a name for a tribe so.... Yeah that's kind of a long name for a dog (anishinaabe) and I can understand your point eagleclan22 about the matter. I never really thought of this kind of situation before til it sprouted up here lol still thinkin tho.... :)

                                Hello,
I have a question for you. I have been told I am part Indian, but I don't know what tribe. I've been told Commanche and Blackfoot. Does anyone know where the name Birdsong came from? My great grandpa's name was Thomas William Birdsong. I was told he married an Indian lady in OK. but that's...

Various comments in this forum have sparked me to ask all of you exactly what you think about blood degree for enrollment.

Understand that blood degree for recognition or eligibility to be enrolled in a federally recognized tribe is a policy of the federal government.
