That being said, what about all the donations by NDN tribes to local communities that more than make up for "lost income" from the inability to tax casinos?
I live not far from the Tulalip Rez in western Washington. I was sitting in traffic one fine day two weeks ago when I noticed one of the Marysville Fire Departments gleaming new vehicles sported an extra emblem at the bottom of the body panels that read, "Funded by the Tulalip Tribes". And guess what, it is NOT one of the vehicles that would respond to the Reservation, the vast majority of which is located in the rural Fire District 15 and NOT the Marysville city fire department's jurisdiction. Just one of many generous donations of an NDN tribe to a neighboring community.

AMEN SISTAH!
As alot of you know, the state of NY is trying to enforce a law made that states that the native nations of NY are to collect taxes from non natives when they buy gas or cigarettes or anything for that matter off the rezes. It was taken to court before and thrown out of supreme court..so the state passes it.. does that make any sense? Now tell me, if someone is buying something off the rez and a tax is to be taken...who do YOU think should get the tax? I say, you want to enforce that rule..go make up your own duty free shops on the outskirts of the reservations dorks.

Though I'm completely pissed off over this.... my mother says ignorance is something that can be fixed, educating someone about something they can not understand. However, you can't fix stupid! Stupid just is...
that would seem to be the case here.

OK, let me end my cut and paste frenzy on a positive note, because this girl knows how the cow ate the cabbage. Tell it! TELL IT!
"This isn't even an intelligent question! Did anyone research this beyond finding out if the tribes have casinos?
Let's try a new set of questions:
1) Has the US government kept any treaty with any Indian nation ever written? (Answer: NO)
2) Has the US government ever paid the money it owed the Indian nations? (Answer: NO)
3) Is an Indian nation simply one of many communities within a state? (Answer: NO, it's a SOVEREIGN NATION)
4) Can we say the word NATION?
5) Where were the states before the casinos and other tribal enterprises?
How much "state funding" was allocated to the Indian nations prior to casinos, etc? Did the states in question take any financial responsibility for anything but roadways (if that much) prior to the Indian nations FINALLY getting to begin to implement their own business enterprises? Did the states pay for schools? Provide health care? Allocate tax dollars for community government? ANSWER: NO NO NO NO NO
Now that they're finally able to generate an income so they can support themselves, now that they're actually prospering despite every government effort including avoidance of paying "the rent" (see Cobell vs. Norton for definition of "rent") ... NOW the states want to collect taxes?
Hey, yo, Indian people. We'll take your land. We'll kill off as many of you as possible. What we can't kill, we'll dog tag, register, create legal long-term genocidal policies for like "minimum blood quantum," sterilize through covert operations like COINTEL, stuff you on the worst land in on the continent, NOT pay you the money we PROMISED to pay you, NOT keep ANY promise we EVER made you, AND ... you can pay us taxes for the privilege of not only surviving, but for actually proving you're intelligent enough to survive and survive well. That's pretty much a final kick in the teeth, don't you think?
Oh geez, wait ... I forgot a few things. Like how the media just LOVES to cast suspicion on Indian gaming as some kind of organized crime front or something (despite the fact that it has the strongest, most well-monitored rules to avoid that in the country - oh wait again ... forgot all the other gaming was owned by EURO-Americans, so that's different somehow).
Get a grip, America. Your greed has gone to your heads. Pay the rent that's been due for something like 200 plus years now and tighten your own belts instead of trying to grab money that simply is NOT yours. Try reading history that ISN'T written by a descendent of the conquerors. Try reading news that ISN'T mainstream.
Here are a few tips for you:
1) If Andrew Jackson did what he did in this century, his impeachment would be swift OR another country would step in to assist the Indian nations just like we did in how many other countries now?
2) Rush Limbaugh is NOT the "voice of moral America." He's a lying, drug addict that knew how to "play" you to gain airtime and fame.
3) The Indian nations do not and SHOULD not owe taxes to anyone - WE OWE THEM.
We can spend how much money - 80 billion or something ridiculous - on the war in Iraq, but we can't pay the bill we owe the people from which we STOLE this country? We can bail out every third world country on this planet but we CANNOT pay the bill we owe the people from which we STOLE this country?
And now you ask the positively second dumbest question of all time - Should states be able to tax revenue from casinos on Indian reservations?
ANSWER: Absolutely NOT"

I cannot believe some people. I've read some of the things they have wrote. At first I was very furious because of how stupid they are. But now I only feel sorry for them, for having such a mind set on materialist things. i feel bad for them because they don't no any better.

For starters, these "Indian" reservations seem to have morphed into dens of decadence, with little to no connection to Indian culture. E.g., gambling is the #1 cultural commodity that they have to sell, and even for that, they have outsiders run the places, so that all they have to do is sit back and collect the checks.
Another point: did the Indians really have it so great before the Europeans arrived? Weren't they dieing from disease, wars with other Indian tribes, natural disasters, etc., much of which was alleviated by the advances of Western civilization?
Grr:Yell i know those ones really burned my toast too!! :Mad
