Ever since I started school, I wore green on St. Patricks day.

When I got to college, me n my frat bro's would go to an Irish bar in the morning for green eggs and ham, n green beer. We would wear anything green that we had, including green face paint and celebrate with the other students.




Was I honoring the Irish by doing this?

Perhaps honoring the death of St. Patrick? One of the few saints whose feast day presents the opportunity to get determinedly whacked and make a fool of oneself all under the guise of acting Irish.

To be honest, most Irish people are embarrassed by American drunkenness in the name of St. Patrick.

Truly Irish celebrations of this day are very spiritual and sometimes involve visits to Celtic shrines from before christianity.

Among Irish drinkers (oh just a few ya know:) they call St. Pat's Day Amateur Day

Maybe. Were you thinking about and/or sending good thoughts to the Irish/Ireland while you were wearing green, eating green food and drinking green beer?

If so, then, sure! You were honoring them.

If not, then, no. You weren't honoring them, you were just celebrating St. Patrick's day the American way (and acting like a typical frat boy, just lookin' for a reason to drink beer!)

But!!!

The above only applies if you were in the States at the time. If you were in Ireland at the time, then absolutely not! Going to Ireland and dressing like a leprechaun, painting your face green, and gettin' lit at breakfast isn't an honor to anyone! And some bony-fingered Irish grandma should come and learn ya some manners.

Although, come to think of it...did the Simpsons ever go to Ireland? I'd like to see Homer do something like that on a visit to Eire.

Would Matt Groening be honoring Ireland/the Irish if he had Homer doing that?

well I know alot of Irish folks, from full Irish to half Irish and if you drink to celebrate the Irish ... then HEXX to the YES your honoring them drink up, gulp gulp gulp... hehe the Irish love it when others try to out drink them are you kidding! hehe Shoot I love my mead at the Irish Festives... :P

My husband and his Irish descended parents played 18 holes of golf today. No one wore green although the fashion police were called because my lug of a colourblind hubby wore a blaze orange golf shirt with blue shorts.
