  • Earthquake!

Anyone else feel it? Article: http://news.yahoo.com/east-coast-roc...212647699.html

    Epicenter was Mineral Virginia.

My experience: I left work early to drop off some 16mm film stock, while I was at the place dropping it off I stepped outside and leaned against a brick pillar to wait for a phone call. Not too soon afterwards I felt this odd shake in the ground, the pillar felt like it was wobbling, and metal things on the building were banging around; a low rumbling sound accompanying it. I was like WTF! I stepped away from the pillar and squatted to the ground and put my hands on a concrete block to feel if indeed what I thought was happening was happening. The shake was like nothing that I have ever felt before, it didn't feel like a fast vibration it felt wide like as if I was swaying back and forth, similar to trying to stand up still while being drunk.

Earthquakes in the Northeast corridor can be felt at much further distances than those on the west coast because the ground is older, colder and more dense. Reports have comes in that it has been felt as far north as Ontario and as far south as Atlanta. No imminent threat of a tsunami or similar oceanic disturbances as the quake originated inland.

I had just pull into our parking garage from lunch. I felt my car shaking and thought one of co-workers had walked by and shook my car. But didn't see anything. Just shook it off and headed back to my desk. Didn't realize it was an earth quake until about 30-45 minutes later!

With the current earthquakes and recent record high temperatures, the East is the new Shake and Bake region, eh?

My daughter in SC said she felt it. My son in NC says he didn't.

My son said people who weren't working and doing nothing, felt it.

            You decide!

Why must I feel like that..why must I chase the cat?

And now they get to wash it down with a possible Category 3 Hurricane Irene! It's projected to hit the Outer Banks on Saturday, but the warning zone starts around Cape Fear River near the SC/NC state line.

Never did an earthquake, or hurricane, or flood, or tornado. A tornado hit about 5 miles down the road, it was a category 1. Been close to tornadoes, lots of times, Okalhoma, Texas, and Michigan. I've done 2 republican recessions, Reagan's and Bush's. Never did a depression, unless this one is a depression. Done a few blizzards, up in Michigan. No dust storms. Never lived on the coast, so no tsunami's. No nuke meltdowns. Hottest temp was 115, this month, but I was in the ac'ed house, not out working. I've worked when it was 107, outside, putting in ac on a new house, in Texas. It was brutal.

I couldn't believe it when I heard the news. Pretty freaky. Mother Nature is pissed and showing it.

About 4 or 5 years ago, there was an earthquake in the Gulf of Mexico that we felt on the southeast coast of Ga.. I was beading on the sofa and felt this weird rumbling. My first thought was "earthquake-nah, can't be". Turned on the news about an hour later and sure enough, it was an earthquake.

My coworkers here told me that the equipment racks, over 1 million dollars in video gear, some pieces weighing 70+ pounds!, started shaking around, the monitors in the edit bays were wobbling almost ready to fall over. Luckily nothing fell over as I don't think we have earthquake insurance...

well, i guess i must have felt it a day early. i dreamed i was in an earthquake.

being from southern california, i was surprised to find out they had quakes here in TN. well, they had ONE quake, but i was in florida at the time. good thing too. the cave i had been hanging around the week prior had a large section of the ceiling fall down. too bad, i really had my eye on a few more rocks in it.
