  • can’t just kick the can down the road

on the first day of 2013, we will go over the fiscal cliff if the renegade and congress fail to fix the debt crisis. a combination of automatic spending cuts and tax increases could cause a global recession. the debt crisis is higher than at any point in history since the revolutionary war.

Oh man, I was in a good mood till I read this...

You are right though. I just don't want to think about it. I remember Y2K when everyone got worked up about it and it was no biggie. People were working together on the problem, and they pretty much solved it in time.

But I don't have a lot of confidence in the gov't, and I'm not picking sides one way or another. I remember when the spending was so out of control with both parties and no one seemed to care. If they didn't like the math, they fudged how the math LOOKED. And now there is the Fed that continues to pump worthless money into the system. The longer this goes on, the more it sounds like a payday loan scam. One day, you really have to pay it off.

We might be in uncharted territory now. Usually wars or the new PC revolution or babybooms helped the economy along when it was doing so poorly. I don't think any of those things are really in the cards now. Folks are tired of war, have enough kids and already own a PC.

I read somewhere that people have "buyer's fatigue" in the technology market. Something has to drive the economy, and I don't see any answers.

And somehow, I don't think there is going to be a fix like at Y2K. People are working on the problem, but they aren't working together.

What can an apolitical person do? I just go over to the arcade and try not to think about it. Not a thing I can do about it. But you are right about the problem. It is there. But I suppose most of us will survive it.

Why do they want more and more and more and more and never be satisfied? Pah! It's all fear, fear of dying. The weak can't get enough, just want to numb themselves with riches, material things, the more the better no matter how to get it. Sorry, just my opinion. Fear of what everyone has to face in the end. My god.

        The Cliff IS THE SOLUTION.

435 Members of Congress - "Representatives" of their people back home have not been able to agree on anything the past 20 years.

A total of 435 minds to work on this problem, and they cannot get along because each is protecting their own political turf while pandering to Special Interests.

They vote themselves pay raises, better health coverage than most Americans, and a nice cozy retirement package.

"...of the people, by the people, for the people..." ???

They will be remembered for taking us over the cliff, and then we voted them all out of office.

Exactly. Sounds good to me. If I have to suffer additional taxes, that I was paying 2 years ago, then I will suffer it out. But you can bet I will be at the polls voting against career politicians for this.

                Voting them out

Country has been in bad shape for awhile, and people just had a chance to vote people out and by and large, they didn't. It is the system of always wanting what is better for me over what is better for everyone.

We all belong to at least a couple special interest groups. Whether it is your age or your race or whatnot. Now we have a new special interest group called "the middle class." All the politicals tried to pander to that group this time around.

It would be an odd thing if actually they believed what was written long ago, that all of us are created equal. Of course that isn't true, so they focus on special interests to throw us a bone from time to time.

But the voice of sanity resoundingly says, there isn't a thing to do about it, go play Yahtzee in the arcade and don't worry over something you can't fix. At least with Yahtzee, my efforts don't go unrewarded! I just got top score! Yea!

We won't reach the "fiscal cliff". It's political suicide for just about every politician in Washington. Also the taxes aren't what most people should be worried about it's the continuous devaluation of our currency which is doing equal if not more damage to the income and the economy than the tax rate for the various income types. For instance today our US dollar is worth .62 British Pounds or .77 Euros. When our dollar is worth more that increases its buying power and thing then "cost less", EX the price of gasoline will drop for us and go up anywhere that the dollar is worth more, in theory that is.

the renegade might be luxuriating in hawaiian paradise while we go over the cliff. the total cost of the vacation to hawaii and federal taxpayers, including funding for travel, staff and protection, is at least $4 million.

                        I dunno....

Toolbox, you might be right. It might be political suicide, but if history repeats itself, it seems that during the stock market crash, people jumped out of windows and people know when it is the end of the line. I think they will try to distract us with football or Kim and Kloe and the K family will do something outrageous or like on the Titanic, while we slowly sink into the abyss, the band will play a merry tune.
