Ever notice this icon > in the corner of the ads you see as you browse the web? The AdChoices symbol appears on web pages and ads to let you know when information about your interests or demographics may have been collected or used to show you ads – what’s known as interest-based advertising.
You may come across such ads when you’re viewing a website, video, or app on Google’s Display Network. In addition to seeing ads based on your interests, you may also see ads based on the types of sites you visit, whether you +1 something, and more.
What Google does and doesn’t do to show you ads
We may show you ads based on many factors, including
The DoubleClick cookie on your browser

Anything you +1 on Google and across the web
We don’t do the following:
Link your name or personally identifiable information to your DoubleClick cookie without your consent
Associate your DoubleClick cookie with sensitive topics like race, religion, sexual orientation, or health without your consent

The way the ads work on this site is simple. To an extent, a script on this site scans some of your web cache, many times just what you have been searching for on Google. It then takes those results and inserts relevant ads on the page. "Targeted Advertising". If you have your security settings customized in a way that the ad script can't read your recent web cache it then inserts something relevant to the page or this site or it just inserts some random ad.
For me I usually get ads for professional AV equipment, electronics tools (soldering irons etc), web hosting, and sometimes guns and ammo retailers.
