Hi there! I have a beginner's knowledge of the Lakota language (only got to take Lakota Language I while working at OLL in Porcupine), so any help will be appreciated. My question is about the word "wakan yeja" (that is baby). I was checking in my notes to see if I had the two parts of the word broken down, but don't have anything. Wakan is no problem......it's yeja that I am wondering about. What does yeja mean? Thanks!

One meaning I've found out is that it means "it is sacred""sacred being" or broken down as Wakan(god) yeja(sent) broken down.There are 2 types of people in the world...

Which dictionary do you have? You should invest in the Beuchel Dictionary that they uses in the Lakota Colleges. It is about $30 but well worth it. I found one on ebay for 10 once.There are 2 types of people in the world...
