  • Ratio At Work Place for Indians

The majority of employees here are Asian I'd say 75%. I'm the only Indian here but what are your ratios? Living in the city we have diversity but the work place seems to distinguish who has the upperhand in degrees or specific career training. If you work on a reservation or in the city what is the ratio like?

At times it seems like a chinese restaurant with all the smell of chinese lunches. We manufacture system chips and programs. But when I chose this field I didn't consider my work place and the contact I would have with others. Its a top paying career but I'd llike more contact other races.

In our office the ratio with the permanent staff is 100%!

We have numerous volunteers and casual and contract workers and it's about 50% NDN there.

I work on a rez and it's about 80% native 20% non native :Mad . I get upset with my tribe cuz it seems like they hire too many non natives, but I also know that our people need to get out there and pursue their education so they can advance and take over all the jobs. :(

Looks like the same goes for those not working in tribal offices. The bay area has some agency anyone know the ratio?

Not sure of numbers, but when I worked at IHCSCV (Indian Health Center of Santa Clara Valley), I'd put Native employees at at least 50%....at least ;). With such a large population of WIC participants at the time, and probably still, IHC had a large Spanish speaking clientel, so there were many Mexican-American employees...That was years ago already, so I can't tell you how it is now.... :).

If I really sat down and really looked at it...I would come up with about 4 in a company that employs 500 so thats what less than 1%????
We the unwilling, lead by the unknowing, have been doing so much with so little, for so long, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.

                          %%%%%%

I work for a large Sheriffs' Dept. they are always saying how they are trying to be so diverse, I think that we have only a little over 1% native in the dept, we have about 1500 sworn officers and approximately 500-600 non sworn employees, we mainly have white males, and we seem to be getting less women as well, not sure why

MAn them days of working (not working) At IHCSCV were fun......man what ndnd did not work there at some point. Yes I would have to say it was about 50% whenI first started ....but when later the number when down to about 20% and that one of the reason I left. I here it's much better now, maybe about 60% so that's good to hear, but no staff will ever replace us, Chris, Hank, Tammi, Debbie, Sharon BP, your sis, Jason, Dr Mele, Hodge and all the others who were hella cool

I'm the one and only. Actually I think my race influenced the way they hired me. Although I came from another facility to where I am now they never checked my referrences. They were desperate to get a Native on board due to several Native inmates at that time. The prison system usually tries to have it's staff reflect the inmate population as far as race is concerned.
