The battery covers are held on with a tiny hex head screw -- metric hex head. None of the hex drivers in my studio are metric or small enough. I have just the right tool in my lab, but the plant closed at 5pm until 2/3. I'm not willing to gamble on whether or not someone forgot to tell me they recoded the alarm system when our plant manager left. So, I'm filing an old allen wrench down to fit the head. I figure I'm two Christmas specials from getting the thing down to the right size, lol.
I regret that you are so far away. I know those screws and the battery operated tea lights. We have them for the Nativity just to prevent a possible fire.

You need something like that. I still have not managed to get a beaming transporter to send it to you. Be careful on removing. Some of the screws just want to jump around and hide in the carpet or cracks in the wooden floor.

    • I'm a beadworker and a jeweler. I use 18/o beads and 0.5mm^2 pallions of expensive silver solder. I'm an expert at getting tiny things out of cracks on the floor. I have magnets on a stick that can pull a needle out of deep shag carpeting -- in the house across the street. I buy lint rollers and kneaded erasers by the case, LOL.

I got the tea lights open and the paper tabs in the trash. No jumpers.

Thanks for the link. I have a nice set of metric ball drivers in my lab. With them I can unscrew screws I can't see without my magnifying visor, LOL. If I had had a 0.050" allen key in my home set of tools, I probably could have gotten these out.

          neodym magnet ?

There are lot of rare screw heads around in modern electronics and mechanics. You can't have a screw driver for every screw which exists at home.

Merry Christmas. It is dark now and the candles are burning.

The Meow Mob would say Merry Christmas, but they're too busy scarffing down Jet's breakfast.

                      • Happy New Year all. May you all have a safe and blessed year. Keep away from omicron.

Tonight we're supposed to have some much need rain. Yippe, no watching the roof for errant fireworks, if it rains. This old lady can go to bed early. (I learned my lesson about this when a neighbor's kid launched a bottle rocket sideways into the cedar shake roof of the house I was renting. Thank goodness I heard it and could reach it with the spray from the garden hose.)

                        • Than I hope that the rain becomes true and you can sleep well.
LOL, we have not much risk of firework tonight. Selling firework has been forbidden this year and many places have been declared of limits for firework as leftover from two years ago.

I am not going to firecracker with black powder shotgun blanks though the flames would be impressive.

                          • Happy New Year all!

Last night the fireworks and firecrackers started at 8pm and continued 1am, when the rain finally started. Fireworks are illegal in the city limits, but they are legal in all the counties around us. A couple mile drive and you can buy car loads of the stuff. Due to low police staffing levels, the police chief got on TV and told people not to call in illegal firework, which essentially made fireworks de facto legal. This was worse than the deflagration of 2000. One of my cats hid a cabinet all night, not even coming out when she really really needed to. Big mess to clean up, this morning. She is still freaked out this morning and is crouching beneath the TV stand.

                              • Yeah, this is quite the pair of cold fronts. I went out to the studio to turn on the heat at 2pm. It was 70F. When I left at 2:30pm it was 52. We're 31F now and supposed to get down to 18-20F by morning.

I think I'm still shell shocked after last Feb's infrastructure meltdown. I'm really tense. I keep checking the ERCOT website for grid status and am ravingly paranoid about the state of my heater and water heater up in the attic. I've done this before, but I'm freaking out.

Jet, the little monster has run off. His heating cat shelter is on the porch empty. I hope he's somewhere warm.
