    Thank you for your prayers.

Creator had mercy with the people in my town. Constant rain for 24 hours but no flooding in my small corner. The Rhine will not flood us in my corner on my side of the Rhine but that wan't hold for the whole town. Though is is expected by now, that the Rhine will not cross the dam.

On the other side, the state capital wasn't that lucky. Some have build houses on ground which was flooding zone in the old times for the Rhine. Same as building houses in the flight pass of the airport and wondering about noise.

But to the south it is a nightmare. Material losses hard as they are, can be replaced. But lives lost wan't come back. Those I have read about this morning are old people 77+ and drowned in their cellars. Many are missed in Schuld where many houses broke down and much more houses are damaged.

I pray for the missed, the dead and that in the dams in the Eiffel and Sauerland hold. Else we will see more flooding with much more casualties. At Ahrweiler it is said, that the damage is worth than anything since and including WW II

Where I live, it is some miles to the Rhine and I have no stream, creek or small river near by. The water floods from my house because is on higher ground than the surrounding but not so much. Drainage channel is barred by the wastewater system with pump for the cellar and the rest is well above waste water channel.

Another problem are the dams in Nordrhein-Westfalen. Some are at critical points https://www.talsperren.net/Fullstande/fullstande.html.

Candle is lit and prayers are spoken.

Almost no rain at the moment. I pray that the rain stops.

BA, glad to hear you're OK. Keep safe.

Well, these anti-vaxers are going get us all. My county has gone from 75 cases on Monday to nearly 1000 today! We have < 50% of adults vaccinated. You can't give the vaccine away. Now we're going to end up locked down and in masks again - except Texas won't do it.

I feel less than safe at work. But, now I can't work from home anymore.

We are on low level but slowly rising.

Only a few kilometers to the West in the Netherlands they are at levels higher than ever before in some regions.

        Vaccination is going slower now.

        Sigh.

I pray and spray some holy water plus lit candle.

BA, hope the rain stays stopped for you. It breaks my heart to see what has happened to some of the towns and villages in that area.

I just got my 1st covid shot last week. I was wanting to hold out until I talked to my cardiologist, but this Delta variant spooked me, so I went to Walgreens and got shot. I don't see the cardiologist for 3 more weeks, and I didn't want to wait that long. Cases here are rising, too-scary fast.

G, sounds like your friend is a long hauler. I've got a friend like that. She came down with covid last year, and is still sick. She has good days and bad ones. Hope your friend can get past it.

The rain stopped for a while where I live but went south and east. Now flooding in Bavaria in Sachsen.

I hope that there will be no rain for days to come. Steinbachtalsperre may still break but hope is, that it will not. I am not in danger but many other people.

If I look outside my window, it is unbelievable that that had happened. Sun, blue sky with little white clouds.

If you guys lived in town, I could teach her how to set stones. Can you tell I plan to redecorate your garage in early jewelry studio? Once you've done a proper bezel setting, you'll never go back to wire wrapping your pretty stone.

If it does get to the anvil point, remember this name: Cliff Carroll. His company makes a good 35lb farrier's anvil. Polished, ready to use. Decent metal. If it gets dinged, you won't grind/polish through an 1/8" plate of steel over crap. Much better than the shop/bench anvils at Harbor Freight et. al. You need a high polish for working silver.

Hey BA, I need to talk shop. *Rose leads BA to the picnic table by the generator.*

I need to take a bipolar signal from a pyroelectric detector and convert it to unipolar for my ADC. I'm pretty sure I need to build a summing amplifier to offset the signal.

                      bipolar to unipolar converter

What is a good op-amp to use? I need to be able to solder it. I don't have the tools to handle surface mount, so I need something still made in a through hole model. Any suggestions?

                          First respond hip shot,

                          https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lm741.pdf

Quick and dirty all purpose amplifier, much used in the "older time". If you wonna go to older solutions you do it with several BC107 Transistor. That I have to look up in my old notes.

It depends a bit on slew rate you need and amplification over frequency as well as how fast your signal changes if you need a "better" OP.

Than I might look for one the OPAMPs by MAXIM.

I would solder a https://www.reichelt.de/de/de/ic-soc...IxcfD_BwE&&r=1 and insert the OP.

Perfect! I have a 0.1-0.2Hz signal. Speed isn't really an issue.

Now to replace my bench power supplies. The lab gremlins conducted a raid in my office while I was working from home. My quad and constant current power supplies were appropriated and now are part someone else's test equipment. They also lifted most of my hookup wire, all my wire strippers, every last miniature screw driver (including the sets hidden at the bottom of my filing cabinet under the file folders), two tubes of LM7805's, 40 solid state relays, 2 Sparkfun RTC's, a box of industrial ethernet switches, 2 sets of neutral density filters, and 12 cans of lime sparkling water and a case of blueberry cereal bars.

I'm trying to imagine the wild party the lab gremlins threw. They ran around unscrewing all the tiny screws in the plant, hooked up a bunch of computers to the network, and kept really accurate time while they changed all the relays in the press controllers. All while eating cereal bars, drinking sparkling water, and burping.

Two legged gremlins I suppose. Sigh.
Some 7805 and 317 as well as some 2N3055 I could hand over. I have not much components left at home any more. But they will not arrive in time I believe.

Well, some old solder I still have. More toxic due to the lead but it is the old stuff.

As to the 741, that is not a rail to rail OP. The supply voltage is quite high. if you want lower supply voltage op,

Chuy, a bowl of chip and queso, the Powwow.com bottle of tequila and some margarita mix....

I got sick of trying to find ceramic capacitors in the disaster area we laughingly refer to as the electronic shop. Everyone who uses it but me thinks their mother works there and will clean up after them. Ten years ago, I got tired of cleaning up for two hours before hitting the counter top and set up a small area in my lab. But, the component stocks still live in there -- somewhere. Now, we've got a couple people who are fond of salvaging components, which I sympathize with since non-surface mount components are becoming harder to find. They unsolder old ceramic caps and throw them in the nearest drawer, regardless of value. It takes 30 mins and a good meter to find a 0.1uF cap to use with a power regulator.

I decided to order a kit from a certain electronics supply place. The website showed one kit available to ship immediately. But oddly, they told our purchasing person she needed to get a quote. The quote came back for 20 kits, shipped from India, at $900 + tariffs! The order is non-cancelable and non-returnable. I went home early and just got the email. I hope she didn't order this before knocking off for the day. Otherwise my Christmas bonus this year is going to be 20 boxes of caps!
