    • Much thanks.

I spent 30 mins huddled in the bathroom, while the sirens went off. But we didn't get much more than a lot of wind and some rain. Other folks weren't so lucky. There was some damage and injuries up in Grapevine. The storm is now headed through LA.

      • Glad to hear that you are ok, I hope the cats have calmed down.

We really got 25°F in the morning but no snow and no ice. No rain else would be a desaster.

No season isn't tornado season in Texas. Our morning is starting with tornado warnings and watches. Feline alert went off about 2 mins ahead of the NWS. My siamese crept through the TV room, crouched down against the floor and wailing, on her way to hide in the crockpot in the kitchen.

So far, our end of the county is just under a severe thunderstorm warning and a tornado watch. Nickel sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts. The sky is green, which is never a good sign. The TV news is wall to wall weather.
And now it's here. Happily, it's calmed down a good bit. We just had some thunder and rain. It's still raining. It needs to stop raining because Lowe's is bringing us a new refrigerator today and I would prefer the guys not slip on the back walk. Yes, appliance number 3 died Monday. It's been a while since we've needed a fridge and I was kind of freaking out when I was looking at prices online. I don't need a $3000.00 fridge, but I will admit to looking at it when we went to Lowe's. I was amazed at all the bells and whistles it had-that we don't need. I sure don't need a fridge telling me when we are out of something. That's what the pad and paper on the kitchen counter is for. We still paid more than I was happy with for just a simple metal box to keep our food cold. We wouldn't have use it, but I was surprised to see that ice makers aren't included any more. You have to pay extra for them now.

OLC, next post I will have my latest embroidery piece pictured. It's been cloudy and gloomy the last few days and I haven't gotten a photo I was happy with.

            • Quite chilly here this morning. In the mid 30s. It's supposed to be in the mid 20s by Christmas. We can hear interstate traffic from the house when there's a lot of traffic, and holiday travel has already started. Sadly so have the sirens.

OLC, here's my latest embroidery, as requested.

Generator runs , got fuel for it , all of our propane heaters , stoves and lanterns are ready as well as fuel for them. Turned a new bale of hay for the horses. Will top off the water for them tomorrow and we're about as ready as we can be ! Creator is good ! Everyone stay safe , stay warm , and have a very Merry Christmas !

                  • Thanks OLC. We are in the process of getting ready for the deep freeze, too. It's supposed to last until Mon.. We are currently under a wind chill advisory, which will turn into a warning about daylight tomorrow. Our high temp Sat. is only going to be around 30. I'm glad we heat with an old fashion gas heater. It doesn't need electricity for the pilot light. We've got push lights that we use during hurricane season, so we're good there. It's only 49 now, and I'm waiting a bit before I venture outside and tuck the plants in. Most of them are in the mini green house on the back porch. I'll get a picture of it. Hubby built some shelves for his tools, which now has plants on 3 of the shelves and is covered with a plastic shower curtain. That's heavier plastic than some visquine we looked at.

I know I mentioned how a couple of appliances died, well, week before last the refrigerator quit. We wen to Lowe's and found one. I don't know how Lowe's is doing it in other parts of the country, but here, they now sub-contract out the deliveries. So, 3 days after we picked out the new fridge, it got delivered. What a traumatic experience that was. Since our house is old, our doorways are kind of narrow, so hubby took the back door off the hinges. Rather than take the doors off the refrigerator, these guys pushed, jammed and literally kicked it through the door. Hubby said something about the doors needing to be reversed, and they guy said all they did was deliver it, and off they went. I was freaking out. Hubby said he could handle it. After a couple of hours watching him get more and more frustrated, I vented about the sorry service in a local FB group. Fifteen minutes later, the phone rang, and it was Lowe's. They apologized all over the place, even offered us a new fridge. I found out that they were supposed to set it all up for us. Basically, all I wanted was an apology and since I got that, my blood pressure dropped back to normal. LOL!

It's crazy cold here , the temp is -1 F and the wind takes it down to a feels like of -23 F Dogs are house bound , outside cats got double feed this morning and the horses stall windows are closed with plenty of hay inside ! It certainly didn't take long to get everyone fed this morning ! It's snowing like crazy right now but is supposed to be done sometime in the next couple hours. The wind is relentless ! I just pray we don't lose electric ! Hope Everyone has a wonderful Christmas , eat too many cookies and other schtuff ! Gosh , we have loaves of Ginger bread , candied pecans , truffles , peanut clusters , chocolate covered pretzels , some kind of thumbprint cookies with caramel chocolate and pecan bits , and I'll soon be in a sugar coma ! • Hey WD, how are you doing up there? Been forced to huddle in a room with your generator and the Christmas cookies?

We're hanging in here. Our infrastructure almost made it. ERCOT has kept the lights on so far. But the wind died yesterday, so they started bringing more natural gas burning capacity on line. Turns out the Railroad Commission only made the natural gas providers to power plants winterize, not the providers to residential users. So with frozen lines, ERCOT and homeowners are competing. We've got natural gas outages. So far, so good here. But living in the tiny neighborhood between 6-7 major hospitals has some advantages.

                              • It's been cold ! Real cold ! The last few days have been hovering around -5 with wind chills at around 35 below 0 ! Miserable cold. We have all my winter gear for feeding the horses and cats. The dogs are staying inside. Eyes and I go out twice a day and feed critters and the rest of the time inside. No power outages(knock on wood) and nothing frozen (amazingly, but we do have a basement so most lines are where it's warm) ! We're doing the best we can. The temps started rising today with a balmy 17 degrees , I think the worst is over ! It's supposed to be warmer each day and 52 by Wednesday ! Crazy
While I'm here I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and an (uneventful) New Year , and may Creator smile on you all !
