Thanks for the cat compliment, BA. Hot weather has returned here. We do still need rain. Not much is new. We have a mouse in the house. Smart little sucker, too. We've got two types of traps out, and he skims the bait off the wooden ones, and ignores the others. He ate my favorite pair of socks and a crochet sweater. I startle him when I do my nebulizer treatment in the morning. He comes out from behind the desk, and goes zipping across the room. He and I had a nice little chat yesterday. I knew he couldn't stay where he had gone because the scents would run him out, so I just crouched and waited. We had a stare down, and I told him that he was lucky we didn't have a cat that was a mouse hunter.I also told him that if I found a snake in the house that had come to eat him, I was going to break out the rifle and get mouse and snake. He ran off after that. If Princess Diva wasn't such a diva, I would put her in the room, and leave her there. Hunt is a four letter word for her. She was sleeping outside the other day, and a squirrel came within 4 feet of her. She cracked one eye open, and just watched him. Lazy cat.

Ishtato would help you out with that mouse. She might even share a haunch with you. Or give you some entrails on your pillow. She is absolutely desperate to get outside and get at the birds that drink from the cat waterer. She has torn the sheers in the front window to ribbons, attacking flying bird shadows.
Olivia killed her first mouse when when she was a year old. She found by the dryer vent. Even with a missing front limb, she pretty neatly bagged it.
Well, my new roof is almost finished. To celebrate north Texas is throwing a 7 day streak of storms.
They had to replace the decking over the front eaves. I'm trying to get a painter before the wood gets too messed up from the rain. The cedar shakes on the dormer didn't get replaced. They couldn't get enough shakes to do the work :(

Not much is new here. Son and family are coming to visit over the Memorial Day holiday. I finally get to meet my smiling little granddaughter. I'm rounding up stuff for them to take home with them. They have an Air BnB down outside Jacksonville. Since there's 2 adults and 4 kids, we simply don't have room for them here. I also don't think our nerves could handle that many people. We'll spend a night down there, maybe more.
OLC, can I rent Ishtato? We got one mouse last night in the kitchen, but that little sucker is still in the bedroom. We are camping on the sofas in the living room. LOL! We usually do that in the summer anyhow. The AC unit is in the dining room, and it's big enough to cool the house with the bedrooms closed off. the living room and dining room have new ceiling fans, so we stay cool.
I'm still messing around with AI art. It amazes me.Take nothing for granted. Life can change irrevocably in a heartbeat.

Odd weather here. Cold in the night, cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon.
Hy subeeds, I could give a little bit of the rain over here.
Rhein has high water. Brushes and grass at the river bed are floaded.
Good that the roof is repaired. I hope you get the painters soon.
Else my car is giving trouble. Just to inspection 200.000 km and a week later Motor Service please.
I do not want trouble with the car. He should run another five years without much of problems.
At the Moment, no useful cars are offered by Ford.
A Ranger is of no use over here with parking lots for cars in dimensions of cars of the 70 ties and eighties.
Tiny cars are no option either.

Subs, have a good visit with the kids and grandkids. Air BnB's can be great. I wish they had had them when I was a kid. Sleeping on the floors of various relatives homes was overrated.
I hope you can get your car fixed BA. I sympathize I too have an old car.
As ill behaved as Ishato has been this week, you can have her for free, LOL. She's had a week long case of the kitty zoomies. I have had 3 Zoom meetings so far this week. She has exhibited her posterior to programmers in Buenos Aries. She jumped on the back of my chair, then on to the keyboard to lick the camera lens during the second meeting with the programmers. She overwrote an email to my boss by jumping on the keyboard. I've given her more treats than are healthy in an attempt to get her away from the computer.
Jet was in a fight last week with a new un-neutered male that has appeared in the neighborhood. He ended up getting an abscess on his ear -- over the weekend when the vet was closed, of course. I got him in on Monday, but now he has a drain. He has to board 'til Friday. I imagine he is going to be pretty ticked off at me when he gets home. I'm not sure how his new battle scar is going to play with the ladies who lunch, lol. I suspect his little friend down the street isn't going to be too pleased. She is already upset over the scar on his nose and keeps asking me to get his boo boo fixed.
We're getting into the 90's F for the holiday. The rain has backed off some, but we're under the gun on Friday afternoon and evening.
I'm getting so frustrated with AT&T. The phones in our neighborhood have been out since 4/16. I have no landline. People keep calling me on it. I can get the voicemail -- sometimes -- but I can't get any call info, like the phone number calling. Someone keeps calling me. They clearly think I can recognize their voice and tell me to call them. I have no clue who they are. I can't return their call.
The phone company told me service will be restored "Friday after 8pm." This is the fifth week in a row for that answer. Day before yesterday, I saw a crew at the manholes over on 8th, right where the street floods when drainage ditches aren't kept clear. I hope this isn't like 2006 when the phones were out for six months.Last edited by OLChemist; 05-19-2023, 11:23 AM.

I got the car back fixed, for one day. Short before coming home, same fault again. Car to the repair shop.
Well, the 35 A Fuse blows up. There are three heaters who run over this fuse, and a part of motor control.
Fuel heater, it is a diesel engine, heater in front of an behind the exhaust, catalyst. They tell me, we can't tell you what really causes the fuse to blow up. Measured resistance of the circuit is to norm, function under max current is ok, the cables show no defect and measured they are to the norm.
They have disconnected the fuel heater. I need it only in winter. If I can drive on bumpy streets without further "Motor Service please" they assume, it will be the fuel heater. Great. LOL. That is only money to loose.
I had my pocket watch repaired, it was my aunts communion gift. I will now let grandpas wrist watch repair, if possible. It is a watch from somewhere between 1930 and 1940. First we could not find it and Mom was already in despair. Loosing such pieces where the memory clings too is difficult. Hard to let go.
I am now correcting the written exams. More exams are forthcoming in the next three weeks.

Intermittent car problems are such a pain. I hope your car holds out for a few more years. Between weird design choices and part shortages, this is not a great time to buy a car.
I feel your pain. The blue lemon, my undergrad era followed by a a tow truck and two vultures car, had intermittent electrical problem. (In America we call a car that is has problems from the start a lemon.) For the first 10-15 mins you were driving it, it would stall and the check engine light would come on, when you took your foot off the gas. I'd take it to the mechanic and it would experience a miracle healing. Let me or my friend's drive it and it would stall out. Idling the engine for 10-15 mins didn't work; you had to be moving.
To leave the campus you had to stop and wait to pull out on the highway. So, you had to drive around the campus for 10-15mins before leaving. It was a very small campus with about a 3/4 of a mile of roads and stop signs about every 1/6 of a mile. I got to be an expert at driving around campus with one foot on the brake and one on the gas, looking for security before rolling through stop signs.

Car issues are such a pain! There's been times over the years I wished we could go back to horses. They weren't mechanically complicated.
We've had close to 9 inches of rain since last Sunday. Our roads are full of run offs and the ditches are full of water and dirt from the run offs. We needed it, though. We are now only down 1/4 of an inch in our rainfall for the year.
The kids got in yesterday, and stopped here before heading on down to Jax.. It was great seeing all of them. My first grandson was with them, too which made it more special. He's been pushing his mom for it, and now that he's older, she can't really say no without a lot of explaining on her part. It's been 9 years since we've seen him, and that includes his dad. She moved and got rid of all her social media and anyway to contact her. I sent him Christmas and birthday stuff the first couple of years because I had his great grandmother's address. I stopped because I wasn't sure he was getting it even going through her address. His mom is a real piece of work. I'll leave it at that. LOL!
Poor Jet. One of my mom's cats got in a fight with something once, and it left a part of a tooth in his back leg. The vet shaved his ankle to get it out. Poor cat was so embarrassed over that. At least he didn't have to wear the cone of shame.Take nothing for granted. Life can change irrevocably in a heartbeat.

I'm glad you had a good visit.
Jet's hair cut may be interfering with his social life. For the past two months, I've watch some young woman with a cell phone stop, call Jet and record him playing with various strings and twigs. Yesterday she stopped, saw his hair cut and ear, and started walking again. Jet followed her down the sidewalk clear down the block, calling to her. Poor kitty.

dang , I wish i could dance like that , those young'uns are keen !I believe blood quantums are the governments way to breed us out of existance !
They say blood is thicker than water ! Now maple syrup is thicker than blood , so are pancakes more important than family ?
There are "Elders" and there are "Olders". Being the second one doesn't make the first one true !
Somebody is out there somewhere, thinking of you and the impact you made in their life.
It's not me....I think you're an idiot !

There's a chance you might not like me ,
