Subs, I hope your car is OK. There is nothing scarier than a funny noise from under the hood.
I too am hoping AMC will renew Dark Winds. Last year they announced renewal before the end of season 1. I hope the silence isn't a bad sign.
BA I feel your pain. I got a 27% pay raise two years ago. The cost of living increases have wiped that out.
BA, it was the coolest it's been in months this morning. It was 74F with 80% humidity. The breeze was cold. It was freaking amazing after this summer. I think we'll need to make your visit to TX in the fall, lol.
Well, after 3 months without rain, we got a heck of storm last night. It was a weird one. Slow moving. It went almost straight south, which is unusual for this time of year. The worst of it went east and west of downtown. It didn't seem too bad at my place. But, after 3 months with no water and no storms, the trees took a lot of damage. Plus there was a lot of lightning.
There are a couple thousand separate power outages in the our service area. Most are on the west and south sides of the county. They have only gotten about half fixed at this point. Thankfully, today was only 98F not 110F, like yesterday. So, hopefully we won't kill people.
I hope we've broken the the summer heatwave. Fifty three days above 100F, 23 consecutive days. Three days hitting 110F. This is the worst summer since 2011. (I was younger and don't remember 2011 being so bad.)
Weds, with the lack of wind and the 107F temps, ERCOT went into emergency operations for the first time since the Feb storm of 2021. We came within a few 100MW's of rolling blackouts. The wind was so low in the afternoon, that wind was giving < 6% of install capacity. It was a tense couple hours after the sun set before the wind picked up enough. Hint to the TX law makers and the brain trust at ERCOT, if the population increases 26% in 5 years, dispatchable generating capacity needs to increase accordingly.
It should be interesting to see what happens with out lawmakers, the bit coin industry and ERCOT. It came out on Weds that one bitcoin company had received $32,000,000 in electricity credits this August for powering down their server farms. They only made ca $8,000,000 on bit coins that month. Now, I understand why all these computationally intensive businesses are moving to TX; they can get nearly free electricity if they agree to power down during peak usage times.
