    O'siyo

I am trying to find a site where I can learn the Cherokee lanquage. I did have it at one time and lost everything on my PC. I am interested in teaching my granddaughter. If anyone knows of one please let me know.

    Search.

Do a search on www.google.com. There's a ton of Cherokee stuff out there. Or you may try Cherokee Nation. I think they have a site with the language on there.

The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma has been offering online Cherokee language classes for some time now.

      http://www.cherokee.org/ is their site

you can also join the yahoo group that was formerly run by Boy Taylor from the Cherokee Museum in North Carolina

Bo was taught to speak it from Walker Calhoun a traditional who grew up speaking Cherokee

      that site is

      http://groups.yahoo.com/group/giduwa I believe

Keep in mind, that site's sound files are all in the eastern or north carolina dialect, sometimes called the "Kituhwa" dialect, imagine that? ha ha

It differs from the Western or Oklahoma dialect mainly in pronunciation, and the eastern folks have more of a habit of dropping first and final syllables in casual speech, I mean they do it in Oklahoma too, just not as much.

you might also e-mail Bo and go to the Cherokee Museum site

      http://www.cherokeemuseum.org/

the website for the Eastern Band is here

      http://www.cherokee-nc.com/

and finally, there is a "Cherokee translator" found at this website

      http://www.wehali.com/

Oh yeah, there are also countless self-instructional materials for the Cherokee language that you can buy from

      http://www.nativelanguages.com/

as well as programs for several other native languages

      hope this helps

It seems that all the 'what are you reading now' threads have died and I decided to make my own thread for books.

Post what you're currently reading, ask for recommendations or give recommendations, post what books you got most recently and anything else book related.
