Does it REALLY matter?

I've oftened wondered what the big deal is with people who won't date or marry out of their tribe. Is one tribe better than the other? I don't think so. When you love unconditionally it's not suppose to matter what tribe you are. That's what makes love so wonderful.

My life partner and I are of different tribes, and if anything, it can be fun and interesting to share info. about each one.

What is you guys input on the subject? Life's a trip, just go with the flow!!!

But I've only really been with guys from TWO tribes..not just my own..hey

The ultimate goal of many FB native people to have their children marry within their own nation. But, that doesn't always happen.
Sometimes, especially with powwow people. There's a lot of interaction going on. (Interaction sheesh. whatta hell am I trying to sound like:) ) Snagging, I mean. Anyways, turns out my grand-daughter is still FB Indian, but two nations. It appears that she is going to learn 3 languages and appears to be getting a good start at it. I am so proud of her.

So ....... to answer your question. It is better and much easier to teach the children one language and one tradition, but, marrying into another Indian nation is still in keeping our native blood strong. It's good.


One question though, Dancingstar. Will you be teaching your future offspring the Lumbee language/traditions - your partners - or both? It's a hard decision.

I'm glad that my son and daughter-in-law decided to do both.

I grew up in a big city where no one cared or even took a second thought about it. When I moved to a small town, I was amazed on how people could be so different with their ways of thinking.

Well Cheyenne is the best if you have to ask. Then I ran away from the rez bc of too many woman issues lol. I lowered myself with a Cherokee. Now were stuck trying to figure out which language is the one to learn. Then I'm further stuck because as some of you know from an earlier thread I am one of the last Suhta speakers and don't know if I should pass that on or not.

I'm a mix of tribes so if my future bride is some thing other then mine it's ok by me. She just has to be a smart, funny, beautiuful, indian and feel confident in who she is.

Well, it shouldn't ,but coming from a small tribe, it does. When you're from a small tribe such as I am, we would want to keep the traditions going. However, there's only a limited amount of eligible people that we would consider to date and later marry, so we'd look elsewhere in Indian Country.

In Indian country you say. But what about those of us in the city areas? I've been meeting alot of people of mixed tribes here in the city and the difference between us and those I met on the reservations are slim to none. Meaning when a person is strong in who they are whether mixed tribed or not it the fact they are strong in the Indian Pride.

yea seems like all the Otoes I meet are all cousins... so um Otoes are out of the question... and Kickapoos... well it would be nice but um... yea. wooooooo anyways...
