  • My bunny is sick

Just wanted to whine about my rabbit being sick. He is the first "bun" I ever had. He has something called weepy eye, kinda like pinkeye for bunnies and he hasn't been eating his pellets. He will take lettuce and other greens on occasion but often. I got ointment for his eye, but he is still off his food. This is distressing me somewhat because he means alot to me and my girlfriend. Anyone got any home remedies for me by chance?
    Thanks,
    ~B

BTW: his name is Kittie. :D and yes he is a bunny :p

Well, a Taxidermist might help with some grief counseling.
A Chef could help with a nice sauce.
A politician stuff its little ballot box.
A greyhound could provide motivation for the little fellow to get up and run in big circles.
A ghost could help with a Hare raising ceromony.
I know that there must be others hare that have some ideas fur you..

Okay,,,no joking,,,, check to see if the rabbit is getting a draft in its cage from a furnace vent or similar, move it away from there asap. then with food, get carrots, they need them,,,, the pellets heave animal by-products in them that are no good for them. just think about the beef scare right now with mad cow disease,,, all those foods be it for cows, rabbit, cats or dogs all have great amounts of meat left ovet by products in them, that will make any bunny sick,,, if you get pellets ask the dealer, do they have by products in them, if they say they don't know, don't buy it.

He actually hates carrots, but he loves spinash and other greens. I have been offering them for a while, he takes it from time to time. I was told to feed him yogurt for helpful bacteria growth in his gut, but he refuses to eat any. Also, he is inside right now because it's winter, too cold outside. I don't think there is a draft anywhere near him either. I will look into the worm thing though, it's a possibilty, especially because of his current eating habits.
          Thanks guys,

do not give a rabbit yougurt,,, he will get the sh!ts and die from that,,, they can't get that in mother nature or due you ever see that???? weepy eyes are a sign of forced air getting to them...but ya keep up on the spinach it is high in the vitamins and other supplements it needs, try slices of apple

I was told that yogurt isnt bad for him by my vet, it puts bacteria that he would find in nature back into his intestines, although he refuses to even look at the stuff, so I'm not ganna force it down his throat. As for having rabbits as pets.....It's a mini lop ear, they along with 100+ other species of rabbit have been bred over the years AS PETS and only as pets. It's just like having a cat, they act about the same. ( just without the purring ) :p

                  Yes yogurt. But not DANNON!!!

They sell yogurt treats at pet stores. My rabbit loves them. But only like 1 or 2 a day. Sugar is no good for rabbits.

She likes carrots and throws a tantrum unless I give her some. She sits by the door and stomps her feet.

Greens are good. Especially timothy hay. NOT alfalfa hay.

Is it an indoor or outdoor rabbit? Mine is an indoor lop. her pic is at njpets.com(the close up of her face, and my fish next to her) She sheds ALOT, I have an air filter next to the cage and clean off a hand full of hair every 3 days or so.

Her name is Cala pronounced chala (short for Mastincala...lakota for rabbit)

He LOVES to run aimlessly around my yard.....I used to think I needed a leesh for him, but heck, he doesnt go more than 10 feet away before he comes runnin back. As for you bunny, I cant find it's picture. Got a direct link?

I got a mini lop cause I thought it stays small. I was wrong. A DWARF does. Mini just means her ears are shorter than a normal lop.

it is the extreme closeup photo in the 2nd row. not the brown rabbit.

They go distances little by little. They have to feel it out. Be carefull. Mine went on the first 2 steps in my house and now she goes all the way up. She even ate my stereo wires.

Mine stopped eating when we went away for a few days. They need attention and dont like it when they dont get it. When Cala is mad she pees outside the cage!!!

Kittie (bun bun) is a mini lop, and for one he is pretty small. He is all black with gray paws, he is eating a little more now, he has been eating lettuce, spinach, and apples now, so I think he will be okay. And that bun of yours is cute, he has a nice color to him. I bet our bunnies would make nice kits. (or whatever baby buns are called ) :D
