  • let me hear your issues

Hello all. I am not sure that I have put this in the right place but here it goes. I am a sophmore at the University of Memphis and am in the process of picking a topic to write a paper on. I would like my paper to bring to light an issue that people outside the Native American community may not be aware of. I want you to let me know what you feel are the most important issues that you would like non-natives to know about. Please vent your feelings here and I will do my best to research and present your concerns.
    thanks!

for me, there is always a disbelief of my being bi-racial. beacuse i tend to be fair skinned that folks don't believe that i am native. i remember in high school, in home room the teacher went thru a list of enthic backgrounds and students would put their hands for that ethnic background. i did that for native american, the teacher didn't do anything for me on that survey. i asked after homeroom why, she stated that i didn't look indian. well to say i was i was ticked was an understatement. there was another student who was bi-racial (black and white mix) and the teacher had no issue with that.

        I have an issue:

There's this white lady who is using us for profit, she claims to have fathered a son on our tribal council. Here is her link:

check her out because my family hasn't heard anything about this lady nor is anybody helping any family from my or any reservation in our area.

Currently, Ike West's spiritual expansion workshops are offered both in and outside of Texas. West conducts workshops in old and New Mexico, South Dakota, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Four or five months out of every year, West teaches and leads spiritual ceremonies throughout Europe in Belgium, Holland, England, France, Italy, Switzerland and Greece. With proceeds from workshops and funds from European and American supporters, West and her son administer a trust for tribal families in order to regularly assist with emergency funds, clothing, food and household goods.

Thank you for your suggestions. I am trying to do my best to bring Native issues to light especially here in Mempis where not many people think about what is going on nationally. I really appreciate your input!

Go to www.edetective.com to check her out since you have more info on her than me. It may help solve the question you have on her.

                            More facts are needed..

Hiya,i'm glad you started this thread, just sorry i never saw it earlier. In the u.k there is little or no information about Native American history or culture,.I have no idea what young kids in America are taught in the class room, but here it STILL consists of "How the west was won".Which was the title of a childrens book that my son came home from school with!No signs of him being taught about how the west was lost! After convincing him that sometimes, just sometimes not everything you read is true,i told him some of the true facts..Not just with what happened to the Native Americans and the atrosities(think its spelt like that),but things that have took place all over the world, including England.I was'nt very popular with his teacher for a few weeks after though, because my son 'bless him'would correct her in class, but hey im proud of him for that. Its just a shame that the history lessons don't teach them that theres two sides to every storey, and that sometimes it's not pretty!By the way,i'm no history guru or anything,i just read quite alot xx
                            keep what you got
                            by givin' it all away
                            remember where you came from
nobody or anythin' gonna get in your way

I would like to agree with still rezin
There are many of us adoptees out there trying to find our Native roots, andBiological familes .
little or no information is on the paperwork or its costly for many to even get started on the search.
Michigan is like almost impossible to get records open Etc.

And its hard to for some to learn about thier culture and history

I am one of the few lucky ones on finding my family and history

so many Native familes were separated becasue of adoptions
and society practices of our past.
and in some cases its still going on.
