  • Please Help!!! Need to know about traditional Souix wedding.

    Hello everyone,
My dad is getting married soon and he is having a traditional Souix wedding, more specifically Lakota. I know nothing about this subject. I don't want to show up and look like an idiot. I have never seen one or even heard anything about one in my life. Can somebody please help me so I know what to expect and what NOT to do or wear. Thanks a bunch.

Why cant you just ask your Dad? Wouldnt that be easier or do you not want to insult him or something like that? I cant help. I am just nosey. lol... Welcome to the site!

I'm confused? If you're Lakota and your dad is having a Lakota wedding it's kinda strange that you've never heard of one. But anyway, i agree with pathwalker, ask your dad, or maybe your other relatives can help.

I know it does seem kind of odd that I hadn't been to one, but I spent most of the time I lived in South Dakota with my grandparents (mother's parents) who had no involvement with my dad's side. He was in the Army. Then we moved to Tennessee, where there really aren't any oportunities for that kind of thing. I guess I don't want to ask my dad for fear of insulting him and somewhat for fear of just looking dumb for not knowing tradition. I could ask his other family members. I am sure his mother will understand. Thanks for the suggestion. Was in a panic and not thinking. Hope everyone is doing ok. Have a wonderful day!

I don't think your dad would feel insulted if you asked him. I would think that he'd want you to look your finest. But you know your family better than i do, lol. So yeah, just ask around and don't be afraid. I think it's better to suffer a little embarassment now than at the wedding itself, haha!

Hi all. I am new. I will spare you the entire sob story, but I have to give a little of it in order for it to make sense, but the bottom line is that everyone on my dad's side of the family was extremely racist, white supremacist almost, back to one who was resentful of his father who was full-blooded...
