I am from the other side of the state. Look to where Ky, Tenn, Va, and NC meet and there'us in the lovely mountains. Lived here a long time and I still think the Great Spirit lives here. Lots of people here have Native blood somewhere in their past but don't care or refuse to acknowledge it.

Originally posted by chickendadWelcome, I'm still somewhat new to the site too. So far a great site. I'm from Southwest Virginia, so I know what it's like to search the records. In our area families destroyed any records of Native blood in fear of losing their land, schools, the right to vote, etc. So keep searching, the truth is out there. Down here we have the Appalachian Cherokee Tribe. It's of the people who stayed in the mountains and didn't subscribe to any rolls to keep their blood line a secret. But the truth is coming out and people are starting to show pride again. You can also do a DNA test. I don't perfer the modern method, but if records are hard to find, use it. If everyone who has the blood of the people get together and find their true belonging, then our voices will be heard.

That is a very nice name Raindrop. Your spirit is very beautiful. I too am trying everyday to live the native ways and traditions. I was very young when I had my children and failed to teach them those ways. But now that they are older I show them those ways by being those ways. They see it every time they come to see me or call me on the phone. My son knows the path I am taking is the true way. He is still young but he will someday (hopefully) follow this path also. My daughter is still too young to know what path she is on. She doesn't understand things like we do but she too will know soon. I am Iroquois and my husband is Cherokee/Lumbee. I have not been able to show proof either but my elders and teachers have taught me that you can be native with only a drop of blood. It is a world of many colors. And the only thing that really matters is that you believe that the Creator will provide for you and protect you and that you give him thanks for giving you what you need and for what he has already given you.
May you also be blessed and may Mother Earth give you everthing you need.
Canku Ota!

new to site but not traditions
hello all i am raindrop white mans name nicole,
I prefer to go by rain drop when around or talking to people who are upholding the traditions and beliefs of our ancestors.
I recieved my name from a reinactment when i was about 10, it was the 4th of july weekend and we kept on asking for rain but the great spirit gave us none so i went behind my lean to and drenched my hair down and went to every camp site and shook it onto the people thence the name rain drop.
I have been told by family members that my great grandmother was full blooded cherokee her name was lau. my great grandfather was pure tenesse hillwamp. i am trying to find proof that she was indeed cherokee but the cencus records dont offer much help.
I am trying to teach my sons the truth about what happend to our ancestors . I have 3 sons, they are a joy to my life. my middle son when i turn on any powwow music tries to learn to dance. It is so cute! I have taken them to friendship Indiana. Has any one been there. I was dissappointed the fall of 04 because some of the vendors had made in china and such to buy in the primative area. I dont agree with this because when i was younger this would not happen, things would be hand made from the people trying to sell. any who its nice to meet you hope to make many friends of my brothers and sisters.
May the great spirit be with you and may mother earth bless you in any way you need.
