Welcome and don't feel sad for lack of knowledge,
you have a yearning now and thats whats important. (It must be in your heart first.)
many of us out there have a situation, or reason for our lack of knowledge in customs and traditions.
for me it was separation at birth from my biological family and being raised in a white home through adoption that kept me outside.
but I always knew that I was native american since I could walk and talk.
I longed to know the tribe that I came from,
when I came of age I started on my search, I recieved tidbits of info and possiblities of where my relitives came from but no real confirmation.
through all that I lived life raiseing my children in all I learned on my own respect for all races, and people who had situations and issues.
My journey was long and I had to go through all sorts of tribulations to get my mind free of anger and emotions that were not right in my heart.
Persistance and patience paid off a year ago this month and I found my Biological family, all my siblings and my mother and aunts, uncle and cousins and a whole bunch of nieces and nephews.
its been a whirlwind of emotions and reflections on life experiences for me and my family.
it even turned out that I lived right next door to my biological aunt and cousins. and my siblings used to go over and visit my neighbors. I knew my neighbors but did not know that I was related at that time.
I was around these people all my life but never knew who they were but we were so close we could touch each other.
but those mysterious powers that be did not allow me to know them until last year.
Maybe it was becasue the time was right. that everything happens for a reason type thing.
What ever it was the day after I Talked with my sister for the first time and met my birth mom. I had confirmation of my tribe/s and a peace and calming feeling came over me instantly
and all my questions were answered in one moment.
the funny thing is I was attending powwows and reading up on my very own tribes when I learned my own family history.
I was already on the right path in my journey I just didn't know it.
may your journey be a heartfelt moment in your life and a way for you to find peace in your heart as you go along in learning more about your tribal affiliation.
