Kwe. Nin Aylnu, NiDodem Makqa, Mide, Ginecosse Nabesse Pishum In our language this is how we introduce ourselves. I am Aylnu, a human. My Clan is Bear. I am Mide Society and my name is Little Boy of the Sun.In our language we don't say "tribes" etc. We are the People.
My elder Grandfather William Commanda from the Kitigan Zibi Reserve in Quebec, Canada is the keeper of the Seven Fires Prophecy wampum belt, the 1701 Friendship Treaty Belt between our peoples and the English, French and Vatican governments and the 1797 Jay Treaty Belt which gives us Indians the "privilage" to cross over the so called border between the so called USA and Canada... Wow.. they take our homelands and then give us "permission" to live on it!
Anyway, Robin Carneen who runs the Indian Radio up in northern Washington State turned me on to this site.
In our language, we call ourselves Mamuwininini,Moving Together Peoples, or simply in the colonials language "Nomands"
We travel all over this land from the northeastern side up north across to the west and even down to the lands of the "Innu Pishum" Sun People in Mextaxa.
My wife and I , she is an "Innu Migwin" or "Feather Person" because her people wor the long feather headdresses of the Plains and Bison people would like to visit some People in the Powwows but we are elders and have not been to these type of gatherings in a long time.
We are now in my wife's territory in Oklahoma and would like to get on the Powwow Trail . Can anyone give us some directions as to what would be the best way to connect?
Heck, when I came into this world, a telephone was a high tech thing and now I'm tapping away at a computer....eh!
