Alright, this is all hogwash!!!!
First, the adoption ceremony can only happen one time a year and summer is not it!
Second, true tsalagi tradition does not contain sweats, that is a western thing. We have a different way of cleansing and it happens every day.
Second, who ever is purposing that he is a story teller is a fraud, especially if it is a "he."
Third, this person is not authorized by tsalagi tradition to do the wedding ceremony, if he were he wouldn't be involved in sweats or being a "story teller."
I believe you are going to get just what you deserve water. You would be much better off staying down under, you're getting ripped off with this bs wannabe stuff. Don't buy into it!
dohiyu,
Jim

You can't get a clearer message than that!! I love straight talk!!
Just an interesting side-bar thought I had when I was reading this thread. Why, when reading all Running Water's posts, does she sound like she has a hollywood/spaghetti western Indian accent?? I can almost hear it!! lol"The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."

Take it easy running waters. When you use all caps, your YELLING at us. Im Cheyene/Arapaho and would like to know more about this adopting thing. Sounds like to me, if this happens too often, then all the "white Cherokee's" will be coming out of the woodwork.

As I have been sayin' an' will say again - why can't you be happy with who you are? why do you want to be someone that you are not? are you not satisfied with what the creator has made you? If that's the case then you have some real problems. I think whoever is going to be adoptin' is full of *!it ! ! ! !SING LIKE NO ONE IS LISTENING,

In fact before we got married it was his idea for me to go to usa to see pow wows etc as he did not want to fly because of 9/11 and the only reason i was left some little money from my late mother who loved travelling around the world so i was able to do so in remember of her.
I thought maybe some time this year i would go back just to see pow wows and do sweats and no other reason.
And no it is not a resume ok just stating the facts as i see it.
And no the people who are are my friends understand this and are not embrassed to know me even if they are cherokee or whatoever.

True, the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma has no bq requirement, but does that mean that Cherokees are "less indian" than other tribes with more stringent requirements? If running waters had said she was being adopted by the Kiowa, Choctaw, Dine, etc., would you be grilling her like this? It just seems like anytime someone says "Cherokee" the alarm bells start ringing.
I don't pretend to know anything about Cherokee adoption practices or the validity thereof, but I think that is a CHEROKEE issue, not a Chickasaw, Anishnabe or even just NDN issue. If her elder is out of line in respect to the adoption process, shouldn't his tribe be the judge, jury and executioner on it and not us?
Our position as NDNs within the framework of the powwow forum should be one of education and encouragement, and if correction of error is to be done, let's do it gracefully. She didn't come on here trying to sell herself as a "Cherokee princess", or offering to sell medicine ceremonies like that guy in NY. She was just saying hello.
So....in the words of Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?"
Ok...I'll get off my soapbox now...
The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma are begingin to have requirement to be on thier roles, too. if you don't meet the requirement you are off of the role!
I am a Cherokee and I think any one with any type of NATIVE DNA can have their say.
This used to be our country before other nationalities came and took over - we didn't get a say then, so let us have our say NOW ! !SING LIKE NO ONE IS LISTENING,

Well, if the creator wanted you to be native you would have been BUT he wanted you to be white and Australian.

I must give a Bigggg Sigh
Too often have our ways been misused by people that have only one thing in mind and that is money!!!
I hope this person is not asking for some kind of "donation" to do this "adoption"
"Western Cherokees" or Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma do adopt, but into a Family...
This does not make you a Cherokee!!!
It makes you part of that Family
And just what the hell is a "White Cherokee"???ᎠᏂᎩᏚᏩᎩ - Anigiduwagi
