I would like a dancing outfit for my 14 month old son. I saw one for sale for an 18 month old, but it was $250. I can't really afford that and am wondering if anyone has any ideas for me. Perhaps I could make one out of suede fabric, but I don't actually know how.

For someone so young, who is going to outgrow an outfit so quickly. I personally feel it's a little impractical to go crazy with his first outfit (using buckskin and lots of beadwork). I have seen it done, but it isn't the norm. Regardless of what style of dance you are wanting to dress your son in, it can be made tastefully out of material. Depending on the amount you want to spend and your sewing talent....your possiblities could be endless. A simple set of can be made out of a solid color of cotton, with some simple applique designs done in contrasting colors can look really good. A little 1/8th inch ribbon for fringe and the little one will be all set. To make an entire outfit for a boy 14 months, you are talking about a couple yards of fabric, not counting the applique work. Sewing something that small could be done in a weekend, if you aren't getting to fancy.
There are plenty of people that can give you advice along the way, just ask in either the forum for dance style you are making the outfit; or in the craft forum. The things you are doing today are the traditions of twenty-five years from now.
