Thank you OneidaDreamer. I'm enjoying this forum in addition to what I've been up to in life... finally visited the Schaghticoke reservation, am figuring out the 'how's" of finding out what Tribe my family descends from. Also, in reading my original post, I'm keenly noting how bizarre sounding my use of the word 'part' had been LOL.....

    thanks for the welcome :)

Hi Lisa, glad to meet you :) seriously, I think my Native American part is my BLOOD. It's always been there, I've always felt it. Sure, I look Irish/English like part of me is, my skin's white like a ghost and I burn in the sun after about ten seconds.. oh, and I freckle, too (ick!) and I cook like my Italian mother... so my hands are probably the Italian part... but..... okay, I have that sense of direction. I never get lost. I always know which way I'm heading. Always. So, I've got directional sense, that's Native American too, I suppose!

take care, nice meeting you, too!

Anyways, welcome and rest assured that you've come to a good place to learn about powwows. Maybe we'll be checking you out at Schemizun this year!
well, my Father was pretty good-looking, and I resemble him a lot, so I'd think my good looks are my Native parts? :) probably.

Yeah, so far, I have spent hours on this site today alone, since I just discovered it. And I'm having a blast learning stuff, I wish I'd found this years ago! Great place to learn about Pow Wow's so the next time I go I don't feel like a total newbie dork (like I felt the last few times!) Pow Wow customs, do's and don't's, what I'm seeing going on around, at least now I have a clue, always the preferred way...! Hope to meet people at Schemizun this year, instead of just looking and being jealous and feeling soooooo out of place!

started a topic hello fellow forum peoples

    hello fellow forum peoples

Just wanted to introduce myself. My name's Kerri (as if that's not obvious?) I'm pretty psyched I just found this forum, looking forward to making time to read many of these posts, learn about The Community, ask questions, get to make new friends, get feedback, etc.

I know next-to-nothing about my little bit of Native American family heritage, but have always wanted to learn more about this.

I'm looking forward to the pow wow sponsored by Foxwoods in Connecticut at the end of August, it will be the 4th one I've ever been to, and I'm really excited! I wish I knew more about the culture and the people of which I'm a part. I would love to meet people I can talk to about things!
